I originally posted this in July of 2008.
I wanted to re-share it with you because I truly believe that it is essential that we, as wives, speak well of our husbands.
I try so hard to not speak ill of my hubby. Not because he is perfect and never gives me the opportunity, but because I love and respect him, and I respect the role that God has ordained my husband to hold in my life.
I am so blessed in this blogging community because so many of you are fantastic at uplifting and praising your spouses.
I do not take that lightly and am continually impressed with your willful intent to edify.
So I encourage you… make a list of your own. Keep it to yourself or blog it or write it in the sky…or better yet, share it with him. You will be so happy you did!
And here is one of my favorite quotes…
"I wouldn't have missed loving you for anything"…
-Beth Moore, When Godly People Do Ungodly Things
15 Reasons I Love My Husband
1. My husband, Chad, is the best father I know.
2.
He takes my future and the future of the family very seriously, and
does everything in his power to provide for and protect us.
3. He is one of the HANDIEST men I know. He can fix anything.
I kid you not. Broken pipes? He fixes it. Garage door broken? He
fixes it. Need new drywall or a new deck or cement laid or a lawn
mowed? He does it with the best of them. And he fixes owies on little
scraped knees pretty darn well too.
4. He is very handsome. This really shouldn't be important to me, but I love that when I see him, I am delighted by his smile and physique and presence.
5. He is a fantastic cook and grill master (better then me by far!).
6. He is kind to everyone and a good listener.
7. He is patient.
8.
He says he likes everything I cook. Even when the kids take a bite and
practically gag in their mouths and spit it out, he will eat whats on
his plate, and then find a way compliment me on it.
9. He supports me and all my crazy ideas.
10. He thinks a lot about who he is as a dad, and always tries to be better.
11. He is excited for when the kids get older and he gets to take them hunting and fishing and all that outdoorsy guy stuff.
12. He is self sufficient… if I didn't clean, he would do it. If I didn't do the laundry (which never happens in my house…HA!) he will just put in a load and do it. No prompting necessary.
13. He loves his family- extended and all- and will do anything for them.
14. He doesn't say no when I say I want 10 kids. He just works harder and tries to make it a financial possibility.
15. He knows the Lord, our God, and will be with me in Heaven. Oh thank you Jesus.
Beautiful list about your husband. They do need our praise…we should be their biggest cheerleaders. Yet sometimes I fail. It doesn’t take much to speak words of encouragement. It’s free. Just takes a little time. Something all us wives can do for our husbands.
Thanks for the reminder!
Sweet list! I hope one day to be able to write a post like this.
This is a great list, Amanda. And it sounds like you have a wonderful husband!
After I wrote Confessions, lots of Brian’s friends asked him, “Aren’t you afraid she’ll write ‘Confessions of an Irritable Wife’ next?” I always smiled and said, “I would have NOTHING to say!” *grin*
I am always amazed at God giving us so much more than we need in everything. I’m so thankful you are blessed beyond measure at home. Chad sounds like a man worth knowing!
I love that you shared this. I have a friend/mentor who used to say she would listen to her friends vent when things weren’t going well, but she wouldn’t let them off the phone until they would tell her three things they loved about their husband. That has always stuck with me. I’ve learned her secret, find three things on the worst days and the list just keeps growing.
I cannot even begin to understand what a marriage that doesn’t involve God feels like. I am blessed beyond measure! You are absolutely right, telling them is so very important.
Beautiful!

I love that pic of him and the kids…there’s just something about a man and little ones
Hope you’re having a great time!
What’s next Tuesday or Friday look like for you?
It can definitely be tough to stay positive sometimes. And often I find its my own desire to fit in that leads me to complain about stuff that doesn’t even actually bother me that much, but I get caught up in the *b*** fest!
Thanks for your sweet words yesterday. The connection kind of blows me away too.
Heidi
Amanda,
What a beautiful tribute to your husband. I hope he has a chance to see this list. How special for him.
That is wonderful, thank you for the encouragement to encourage! I know I fall short of this everyday, it’s something I really need to work on!
Great list! You’ve inspired me to work on my own for my husband. I may not publish it tho.
Hi Amanda!
It was great to see you on Tuesday! So glad we got to connect in person again!
Your huband rocks! And so does mine! Mine could fit your list to a “T”. I actually thought you were talking about my husband until I got to number 14…then I knew there was no way you were speaking about him….oh, man, I was scared for a minute there. I don’t know what I’d do if number 14 applied to me. I’d have to change my name to “Kate” to get it all done before I menapause!
Did I really just say that?
Have a safe trip home!
Tina
That is really sweet! I do this for my husband every few years. I sent him a powerpoint slide with 31 reasons why I love him. A few years later, I sent him the same list with even more reasons! What a great way to encourage your husband! I love it.
Michelle
This is really sweet!
I’m continually looking for new ways to edify my adorable hubby, so I may have to be a copy cat on this idea
Your family is lovely! And you are so blessed to have the man of your dreams. Putting God in the center of the family is the most important thing you’ve done. Good job! May the good Lord continue to shower you with blessings!
Amen, couldn’t agree more. I find myself blaming my husband for things since he is easy to blame, and I am NOT PERFECT.
I think I will follow your lead today and write a list for my husband. I was already going to talk about him as a father today, but who says I can’t talk about him as a husband too.
God Bless!
This is such a great post, I’m glad you re-posted it.
After reading this, I feel a blog brewing….
Michelle, that is AMAZING!!! Thank you so much for sharing that… I think that is just about the neatest thing i have heard today!!! I bet it means so much to your hubby.
Wow!! You have impressed me!
Blessings-
Amanda
Thank you so much Quing… I could not agree more!
I love what you said at the end about him being with you in Heaven. That is such a blessing, isnt’ it? No matter what our husbands forget to clean up or leave on the floor or forget to do, we have the joy of knowing we will spend all eternity together in a perfect place! Can’t beat that!
Awesome!! I am going to make my list now too
Beautiful! Chad ROCKS! I love your list and I am sure he does as well. I also think it’s so important to make sure our husbands know we feel this way. It’s too easy to point out faults and things that may irritate (not that that EVER happens here)
but if you look at a list like this you realize that those little things don’t matter because THESE are the big things that do! Also, I think it’s great that he supports you wanting 10 kids because I can’t wait to come over and see THAT! HA!
We missed you at Bible Study this morning but I hope you are having a WONDERFUL time!
Love ya,
Laura
Great idea and wonderful list. I enjoyed reading it.
Wow, that is quite the list! I have a great husband too, and need to look for more ways to tell him.
What a great list! Hopefully someday I can write a similar list about my dh!
So awesome! Glad you have a Godly husband. For our ten year anniversary, I had a gift made by a company called noteable you. It turned out great, and is especially good if words of affirmation is someone’s love language. http://www.noteableyou.com/
What a great thing to do. I guess I better work on one for my hubby
Wonderful list!
Great list and post. What a great idea. I am going to make a list for my husband…thanks
beautiful! i need to take the time to make a list of my own…especially love #15…thank you for sharing this again and for always being such an inspiration and so supportive and positive
THAT, was very sweet! Thanks for the inspiration!
what!?
have a great weekend. i’m off to california to attend my brother’s wedding reception and driving back with my mom on sunday. whirlwind weekend. i’m gonna miss by man and my puppy!
he’s outdoorsy AND does laundry?! what a find!
he sounds awesome.
i love this stuff. i’m only in yr 2 of marriage and it’s pretty darn amazing. i love loving on my sweet man. my family loves him, his family loves me. couldn’t ask for more. we still have yet to have any major disagreement or argument. i know we will go through tough things eventually so i’m trying hard to make sure we have a firm foundation for when those times come. i will definately have to write a blog post about him soon. we just got a puppy and he is such a good puppy daddy!
I love this post!! Even though I have only been married 11 months, I totally agree with you. My parents ALWAYS presented a united front and until this day I would never know if they were upset with each out. Great reminder!
You’ve got quite a guy there! I suppose I need to show my husband in a more flattering light rather than photos of him oogling scantily chicks huh? Oh, nevermind…
10 kids????????
That was so sweet! I usually do an homage to my hub on his birthday – but I dont know why this year I didn’t… Hmmmm…. For whatever reason I forgot, this I know is true – I DO love him more today than I did a year ago today!
lo
Such a sweet post!
Oh man, this made me all teary eyed! It was incredibly sweet.
Off to make my own list!
You are such an inspiration.
Thank you for the reminder… It’s been a while since I’ve written up a list for my husband. A couple of years ago on Valentine’s day I made him a container full of “compli-mints” – I wrote things that I appreciated about him on pieces of paper and wrapped the paper around some mints. Gave him a prescription to “take one mint a day”…. he loved it! Maybe it is time to do it again.
I really enjoy reading your blog.
Blessings to you,
Kari
You do have an awesome husband.
So, does this mean you’re going to have more kids?
I love all your comments. So, you didn’t think I was being grumpy? I think I was borderline, but you’re so funny and frank.
Do you give out your recipes? I would LOVE to make the cake you took to MckMamma’s for my Grandmothers 90th party this coming Friday! my e-mail is denise_fears2002@yahoo.com if you share! Thank you and I’m glad I found your site!
Hello,
I came over here from McMama’s site. Will you please share your cake recipe with me? It is too beautiful not to!
Thanks in advance!

You are an inspiration. Both with th post and what I read over at McMamas. Are you willing to share the rainbow cake recipe? Or have you already… afterall, I am a first time reader! Let me know… I have cake envy too!:o)
What a sweet list! It’s intriguing to think how many marriages might be saved if wives would take the time to really appreciate their husbands for the big and little things! Thank you for posting this! I’m working on my list!
I’ll admit–I’m not usually a big blog lurker (as I’m sure you’ve realized I’m a complete stranger!). I was drawn to click on your link because of that amazing rainbow cake! I’m suddenly in cake envy, too! Is that a sharable recipe?
Have a great weekend! Thank you for befriending and encouraging MckMama! I’m just a lurker of hers and too far to ever make an in-person visit, but she’s been in my prayers and I’m glad you could share a joyful day together!
Excellent post! Such a sweet list.
thanks for this post…your honesty…your love for your husband…and knowing what it is to openly honor and respect your husband! He sounds an awful lot like mine — ain’t God’s blessings great?
p.s. I wanted to send you a private email but not sure how???
I just found your blog from Mckmamma’s blog (whose blog I just found yesterday!) and I can’t get enough! I love your blog and I love this post about your husband. It was a much needed reminder that I haven’t loved on my husband for his awesomeness in a while. I have to tell you, I also love that you say “bad self” a lot – I do too! So I’ll be reading more of your blog! Thanks for being a good distraction for a half (okay whole) hour tonight!
Melanie
Oh please delete my last comment… I mistakenly put my email where my name should be. Ugh!!!
Can you post your rainbow cake recipe???? I came from MckMama’s blog.
Love it!!!!
Amanda…………… Just saw your amazingly awesome, fabulously beautiful, simply scrumptious cake on MckMama’s blog!!!! You’re a rock-star famous cake maker!!! Woot Woot Amanda Rocks!!!
Once again I have fallen behind in my blog reading but just wanted to say YAY to you!!!!
Wow Great List!! I’m going to have to copy!! I came over from MckMamma’s hoping you’d post the recipe for the rainbow cake!!
I hope he reads your Blog!!! : )
Great Job Amanda lifting up your Beloved!
You are an inspiration!
Praise the Lord!
I rememeber when you wrote this the first time, you inspired me to write my own about my Chad!
I def. need to dig mine out again, I need to print it out and remind Chad how much he means to me!
WOW!
I am going to make a list too!
Thank you!
God Bless
10 kids? You’re my kind of friend. (((Laughing))).
I think this was a great idea and we should speak these things and share them. I think I will do this for a post in the next week or so. And make sure my hubby reads it.
I know what he will say: Do you mean these things?
And I will answer: YES.
Thanks for the encouragement and idea.
