I Am Baker

Now Thats a Great Grandma

The day after Christmas we ventured to Fosston, MN to visit my Great Grandma Inga.

I never get it right, but I believe she is 94.  Or 93.  Or 97.

Lets just say she is over 40.

My Audrey is named after Grandma Inga’s daughter Audrey. (My grandma Audrey)

This picture gets me a bit choked up… even though the lighting was off and its a little blurry… its Inga and Eddie.  Grandma Inga was married to my Grandpa Eddie.  He passed away over a decade ago, but obviously was a huge impact in my life as I named my son after him.

This visit with Grandma was different.

The way she recalled memories of her beloved, the way she allowed herself to get caught up in thinking about him and their life together, I was choked up more than once listening to her reminisce.

So thankful for our time together!

Now Thats a Big Sunflower

I couldn’t resist sharing a few pictures from our weekend.

My niece Inga came to visit.

Her and her mom (my sister) and her grandma (my mom) came to the cities for a girls/birthday/school shopping weekend.

They came over a bit later and we made red velvet cupcakes and let the kids decorate them any way they wanted.

Then I decorated one just the way I wanted.  And then looked at it.

Cause I am trying not to eat gluten.

And those were not gluten free.

The only thing they were free of was healthiness.

Dear sister posing with the sunflowers that run the edge of our garden.  She wears fun colors.

I sometimes try to liven up my black wardrobe with a splash of white.

I am a rebel.

Seriously though, our sunflowers are huge.  At least 15 feet tall.

Not sure why.

But I like lookin at em.

Did you do anything fun this weekend?

Audrey and Beezus

And when I say Beezus I mean Inga.  All of my kids claim Inga as their best friend.

I sure hope that lasts forever!

We met up with my mom and Inga last week… (or was it two weeks ago?)… and had such a fantastic time.

My mom bought Audrey that adorable hat in the pics above…and she loves it!

Thanks mom!

Of Course You Can Get a Tattoo Honey!

Our day at the MOA (Mall of America) started out like this.  Happy.  Smiling.  Full of Energy.

The kids went on so many rides… they couldn't get enough!

(Good thing there are more then enough!)

They even got some… body art.

This picture was taken moments before "The Merry Go Round Incident of 2010".

I wish I could talk about it but I cant.

Ya know.  Legal stuff.

Or, I'm just really tired and want to go to bed.

Lots and lots of this…

…led to lots and lots of this.

I think on Saturday night we all slept like babies.

I Had Four Pieces of Pumpkin Pie. Just Sayin.

Hi all!  Hope everyone has had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and weekend!

I cant wait to read about all the amazing food people had and the fantastic deals people got black Friday shopping.

Me?  I ate. I baked. I slept.

I bought not ONE SINGLE THING.

(insert really pathetic sad face here)

But we did get to donate cookies to a wonderful charity in Fargo. (we made over 200!)

See more about these here.

If you want the recipe for the amazing, delectable, mouth watering, absolutely addicting monster cookies, head on over to my baking blog!

We also got to spend some time with my sister, hubby,  and her sweet little Inga!

Dang she has straight white teeth.  And bright eyes.  And skin that tans.  And blond hair.

Seriously.  We look NOTHING alike.

Thanks for sharing some of your favorite twittee's… I still have to go through all of them!

I actually sent a 'twit' from hubbys phone as we were heading to grandma's house on Thursday.  It was weird!  I have never been 'mobile' with my twitting before.

I know.  Its like I have my head in a hole or something.  I'm guessing I'm still about 5 years behind in technology. (and fashion, and parenting techniques, and celebrity gossip) I'm making progress.  Slowly making progress.

Has anyone put up their Christmas decorations yet?  You better be blogging about it… I LOVE looking at Christmas decorations!! (I am obsessed with Christmas.  There, I said it.  I feel better.)

I have some great things coming up that I cant wait to tell you about!  Some stuff for me to share, some stuff for you to have, some projects for cheap and easy Christmas gifts, some stuff that you have to know about if you have cute kids!   Be sure to check back this week and get the scoop!

While visiting my family in Fargo, I was 'hired' by my sister to get some pictures of sweet Inga grace.  I am pretty sure she hired me because I had the best prices in town.

Although I have been struggling a lot with photography lately… I am glad Angie had enough confidence in me to let me do this.

I learned quite a bit about myself and my abilities… and I am fairly certain I will never be a professional photographer!  Those guys have patience!  And talent!  And the ability to tell between 100 ISO and 1600 ISO.

I think I am never taking my camera off 100 ISO again.

I cant tell you how many pictures I ruined with my lack of experience!

Ah well.

Live and learn right?

Hey!  That gives me an idea… would anyone be willing to share their favorite photography website or blog??  I'd love to see what inspires you!

Ode to Inga

One of the reasons we ventured to Fargo this past weekend was to celebrate the birthday of my niece, Inga Grace.

I wanted to do as much as I could for her on the littlest budget possible.  She is an only child, with doting parents and grandparents, and I sorta figured that there was nothing I could buy that she doesn't already have.

So I made her a cookie.

On a stick.

She got a few bites.  Then mom got a few.  Then me.  Then grandpa.  Then grandma.  Then it was just about gone.

Happy Birthday Inga!  Sorry we all ate your cookie!

I also got her this.

Because every four year old wants a book on BBQ right?

Maybe I better 'pink it up' a bit.

Maybe add some pink polka dot paper and some soft fluffy flowers with rhinestone centers.

And I might even try to tell Inga how often my kids ask if they can go visit her.

"oh how I love that she loves me…" (from her mommy Angie)

I emailed her mom and dad and grandparents and ask them to tell me 10 things that they love about Inga.  Then on each page, add some of the things they wrote.

That way the book is from ALL of us.

The Adventures of Ingaberry Grace…

Inga and her daddy…

Inga's heart in Coltons hands…

"you are loved"

"…she whispers wise questions…"

That is from grandma.  I have a very creative family.

My favorite quote was from my dad.  He wrote as his number one reason he loves Inga (all ten
were wonderful BTW)

"there is just something about a fresh spirit that can choose to put an idea into action…"

The final page is all of the "love quotes" from the family.  They were all so endearing to read… and I can imagine that one day, when our little Inga is feeling blue, she can open up this book and read about all the amazing reasons that she is loved.

Hope she likes it!

Maybe I should have given it to her after she learned how to read.

Details, details.

For sweet Inga's birthday gifts, her mom treated her to a day at the salon… she was given the princess treatment… a beautiful princess hairdo and pretty pink polished nails.

My very talented Grandma made her this Barbie cake that was immediately attacked by small fingers begging for a taste of that sweet cream cheese icing.

I just loved this little pose.

Hope you had a wonderful fourth birthday Inga Grace!
