For me, it’s all about contrast that makes it look yummier eg Chocolate cake on light background = yummy WITH crumbs. But light cake on light background looks yummier WITHOUT crumbs! Perhaps it’s the type of cake too. Chocolate cakes make you want to stuff your face messily, but white cakes seem more refined and hence should clean? Who knows!
