I have a secret to tell you.

I have been seeing Dulce de Leche everywhere.  I am fascinated by it.  The way the words look and sound and the mystery of complex flavors they tease.

I love just saying Dulce de Leche.  I feel sophisticated and gourmet.

So you can image how excited I was to try it.

And how lame I felt when it just tasted like caramel.

Oh, its not Dulce de Leche’s fault.  Its mine.  I have a very unsophisticated palette!

But I can still run around saying it and pretending I am cool.

Anywho… I came across this coulndnotbeeasier recipe for a Dulce de Leche smoothie and had to try it!!

And just because I am a glutton, I added a bit more caramel to the top.

This smoothie is really thick and rich and packs a sweet punch that just might knock ya off your feet.

In a good way of course.

  1. I have never had anything Dulce la Leche.
    Hmmm.
Perhaps my life is not complete?

  2. Funny! I love good caramel and have always thought the two were next to identical. 🙂 Enjoy the nursing mommy metabolism. Mine is coming to it’s sad end. 🙂

  3. I’ve always loved saying it too. Super fun! Dulce de leche ice cream is over the top yummy…mmmm, my mouth waters even thinking about it!

  4. I have a Mexican/Spanish heritage and grew up in southern California, so I was introduced to this from a young age. It is so delicious! And yes, can just taste like caramel. Don’t feel bad, I think so too. But for some reason, that doesn’t make it less tasty to say that! Give me sugar any time and I won’t complain.

  5. It’s a sad truth but I think Dulce de Leche is pretty much caramel, or a thick caramel at least. In Australia we make caramel pie filling by boiling tins of condensed milk (or you can by it pre-made). Dulce de Leche just means ‘sweet milk’ but it sounds so much more exciting than caramel, so where’s the harm in calling it that. I first loved it in Argentina where I also discovered Churros, and thus love them dipped in caramel more than in chocolate.

  6. This recipe looks yummy, But I think it’s unfairly called dulce de leche smoothie. Butterscotch & caramel does not match the flavor of caramel at all. Disappointing.
