I made a  cake for Mothers Day.

But it was boring.

There was nothing exciting about the outside.

There is nothing excting about the inside.

Its just a plain old cake.

Except that I made it for someone who deserves something more than ‘plain old’.

I came across this quote and thought it would be the perfect addition to this cake.

A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of cake for five people, promptly announces she never did care for cake*.  ~Tenneva Jordan

 *Original quote says ‘pie’.

And I am pretty sure that describes my mom.

Selfless.

Considerate.

Generous.

Loving.

I made a white cake with lemon frosting.

With a rose on top.

I am sure you could cover the entire top with roses!  But I dont want to bore you with frosting roses.

I do however, want to share with you a few simple, easy, personalized and significant ways for you to celebrate your mom this Mothers Day.

  1. Oh, send me a piece!! That looks divine. Inside and out. I love how it’s elegantly simple. PERFECT!! =-D

  2. I’ve always loved that “pie” quote. I love that you changed it up for this cake ;O)
(P.S. This is probably going to be annoying, but check your wording on the sentence that comes after the third picture. I’m pretty sure you meant to say “I’m”… Have a great day!)

  3. I know it’s awful, but the first thing I thought after I read the quote was “because she knows there will be plenty left of her kid’s piece.” Or maybe that’s just how it goes in my house. Truly though, lovely cake and lovely quote.

  4. Mother’s Day posts mean I’ve been reading your most lovely and inspirational blog for a whole year now. 🙂 You never cease to amaze me with your talent and I hope you continue to do so for many more years to come!

  5. Gorgeous – although makes me feel like a bad mom. I’d hide the cake and save it all for me 🙂

  6. so simple and gorgeous! I just love your style, girl!
That quote is precious..I’m afraid, though, that my kid’s WILL not be saying that about me 😉

  7. Absolutely PERFECT!! I have been delegated to bring dessert this Saturday and hopefully I can duplicate this wonderful creation. Thanks for sharing.

  8. LOL @ Stephanie – Chocolate and Toast – piping of a 3-year-old. My thoughts exactly.
My only chance would be to type this in a lovely font on the PC to print out to use as a template around the cake!
