Blech ~ Oh! And a Awesome Blog Awards Update

filed under: Miscellaneous on April 30, 2009

My computer is dead.  It had a massive stroke and keeled over and died.

As far as I know right now, I have lost everything.  No more trusty favorites list to get me where I need to go.  No more Word documents that I have been working on and changing and adding too and fine tuning fir two years.  No more pictures.  No more picture editing programs.

I'm a little heart broken, which is stupid because its just a computer.

But not stupid because I have put a lot of time and energy into my pictures and writing and blog.

But stupid cause no one I love is hurt.

But not stupid cause I have taken about 20,000 + pictures of loved ones that are now gone.

But stupid cause THEY are still here and life goes on.

I don't know.

I packed up the kids and drove to my mommies house.

I have been in Fargo for the last 4 days and while I have many wonderful pictures and memories to share, it will have to happen as soon as I figure out how the heck to get pictures on my blog now.  I don't even know how to get them off my camera at the moment.

Some things that I have been feeling sorry for myself about:

That I am not internationally known like Mckmama and didn't recently have my flights rerouted saving precious time and stress levels by an all powerful air traffic controller otherwise known as a fan #147,653.

That I had to miss The Real Housewives of New York City and have no idea what happened between Bethenny and Kelly because my parents don't have Bravo.

That I have lost my photo programs and have no idea where the original program disk is so cannot re-load them.

Somethings that God might have said to me recently:

You are not as popular as Mckmama because you are not as good at multi-tasking as her and she is able to maintain her blog NOT at the expense of her children.  Would you be the same way if you had 200,000 hits a day?

While you could have been watching smutty TV you were instead reading and praying with your children.  And that is time you will never regret.

Although you had to lose something important to you, I know you will gain so much more…

Speaking of silver linings… I am getting photoshop!!!  And not only that, my mom got it for me for $256.00.  She is brilliant.

She has connections.  Me, not so much.

Moral of the story?

Trust God.

And your mother.

HOPEFULLY, pictures will be back soon.

Just a little update for you about the Awesome Blog 2009 Award.

I have been trying to inform every nominee about their nomination.  Since the winners are actually going to be voted on by you(May 11th, Make sure you vote!), I figured that people might want to add a tidbit on their blog or do something to let their regular readers know.

I sent off an email to one of the nominees… and got back a wonderful little note telling me thank you and that she was honored and that she would check it all out.

And that nominee was….

The Pioneer Woman herself.

So just so all you nominees know, you are in very good company.

I sooo feel your pain! We recently had major ‘puter troubles. They seem to be resolved more or less now. The good news is that the information you think you lost may still be there. The bad news is you need to find someone that knows how to retrieve it and it usually isn’t budget friendly. God will provide you with what you need.

  • Bethany says:

Well, if not HP, than I’m glad it was your mama who found Photoshop for you! So anywho…
So sorry your computer broke. I was once without a computer for two years. Yes, I said years. My heart breaks for you…or at least feels badly for your pain. I hope you can get your pictures back. On the plus side, I can show your blog to hubby dear and let him know that it’s more than unrealistic OCD that makes me continue to buy memory cards rather than delete the pictures off the ones I have and reuse them. It’s truly realistic OCD. (’cause that’s SO much better.)
    And a final note:
I truly believe your blog will become more and more popular, because you are real. And a good writer. And you speak words of truth for Him. And He will make sure that gets to all of us people who need a boost up towards His grace.
    Much love to you, sister!

How sad! I’ve had the same thing happen to me. I cried and cried. Fortunately, my husband, who is a computer programmer, was able to get all of my data back. Make sure you look into that before you completely give up. It may cost some money if you don’t know someone who can do it and has the tools to do so, but it is worth it, especially to get all those photos back.
    Good luck!!

  • he & me +3 says:

Oh no about your computer. so sorry.
    Yeah on photoshop!

  • BP says:

Oh no, you poor thing! I’m so sorry you lost all that. It’s hard to be positive at a time when we see so much that is special to us is gone. I’d wondered where you were this week. Your blog is great. I wonder too how blogs get to be so big and well-known. Just remember that you are touching lives right now with your posts and your honesty and insight! I’m blessed to have “met” you! Have a good night.

  • Julie in WA says:

Oh, Amanda, I love your blog! What you don’t know is that I visit you EVERY SINGLE DAY! Even if there is nothing new, I still check each day. I don’t know MckMama, but I am attracted to your site because of your honesty, encouraging remarks, your beautiful children, your commitment to God. In fact, just so you know…I only have three daily blogs I check, right after reading email…You, Pioneer Woman, and Stuff Christians Like. (I also have a long list of quilting blogs that I enjoy, but that is as I have time in the day.) There is a reason God keeps your readership right where it is…so keep up the great work!

  • Julie in WA says:

Oops..just one more thing…you will see my previous post, and it has a different email address…don’t know how that slipped it there! I am still the same Julie in WA!

  • susan says:

I found your blog through Michelles. I think you are honest and real. Unlike another McM–A
    that has a blog.
Every mother has a story. My children are all grown and have children of their own. You dont need a million followers to have a blog that encourages other mothers:)

  • Laura says:

That is such a bummer about your computer, so sorry!! I would have done the same thing, freaked out and went to my mom’s house! ๐Ÿ™‚ With the right person and the right amount of money you should be able to get most of you stuff back, I’ll pray that you do because I would be so sad for you to have lost all you pictures! Also may I suggest an external hard drive…they are fairly cheap and you can back up everything as often as you want to, I got one for the fear of losing all my pictures. And it doesn’t hurt to upload them to a third source such as shutterfly. Can you tell I don’t believe in going overboard when it comes to picture safety? ๐Ÿ™‚
Also, why the need to be internationally know like MckMama? Wouldn’t you rather know and follow most of you blogger friends? You will always have us faithful followers! ๐Ÿ™‚ AND The Real Housewives of anywhere…I watched one episode and had to vow ever watch again for the sole reason of becoming a complete addict! So, I can’t update you on your missed episode. ๐Ÿ™
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! And I hope we get to see new pictures of the kids soon!
    Laura

  • Kristin says:

OOO! WE’ll be praying for you!

  • JanMary, N Ireland says:

Oh no about your computer ๐Ÿ™
    Oh yeah for Photoshop ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Allyson says:

Our laptop was fried in a thunderstorm last year, but a friend who knows computers was able to retrieve everything for us. Check around to see if anyone can get your info off of the hard drive (or where ever the computer tries to hide it?!?)

  • Gardner Momma says:

Oh Wow, for some crazy reason I am excited that it’s the blog that I nominated that got back to you & said thanks (Pioneer Woman)!!
And you know, that’s why I don’t always comment, I go to your blog & do a quick scan, or more if I have time, but I am NOT the mom that could delve deep into the blogging world without sacrificing her children. That’s why I am frequently absent for long periods of time. I Seeer-I-OusLY Do NOT know how MckMama does it, but my relationship with my kids and hubby would suffer. For example, right now my 2-year old keeps begging me to eat and saying “my hungy!!” and I keep ignoring her, just so I can type this and make my point about how I would be a horrible mom if I blogged too much. Are you getting all that?
I’m so sorry about your computer and losing all your stuff, that royally, royally stinks.
