Easy Smoothie Recipes

These 4 recipes are not earth-shattering by any means, they just happen to be our favorites.

They are all basic combinations of:

  • banana
  • raspberries
  • kiwi
  • blackberries
  • blueberries
  • strawberries
  • pineapple
  • apples
  • kale

If I happen to be out of kale I will use spinach. I often make smoothies with milk, but find they are just as good with water. I don’t typically add any additional sweetener like honey or sugar as I find these recipes to be sweet enough on their own. However, everyone’s tastes differ so be sure to try each recipe and adjust to your tastes.

Tips for make-ahead smoothie bags:

Chop any fruit that will blend easier when frozen (such as bananas, kiwi, and pineapple). Some blenders can handle a whole frozen banana, but I find I like the final consistency better when the fruit is all the same size.

Make sure your fruit is rinsed and dry before adding to the freezer-safe bag.

Green Smoothie

Green Smoothie

Do you love my creative naming abilities? 😂This is one of the easier recipes as it only has 3 ingredients and yields 2 servings:

  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1 cup chopped bananas
  • 1 cup fresh kale

Place ingredients in a freezer safe bag. Try to get out as much of the air as possible and then seal the bag. Label with date and place into your freezer for up to 3 months.

How to Make a Green Smoothie

When you are ready to make the Green Smoothie:

Place contents of the bag into a blender and add 1 cup (up to 3 cups depending on the consistency you prefer) of the liquid of your choice. We use milk and water, some folks like yogurt (you may need to add additional water) or almond milk. Mix on high (my Wolf Blender has a Smoothie setting which runs for 45 seconds) until ingredients are completely incorporated smooth. Serve immediately.

Pre-made Smoothie Bags

Tips for How to Make Smoothies

Know your sweeteners. I use banana in most of these recipes as the sweetener, but you could also add honey or (heaven forbid) a little sugar. My best advice is to try the recipe as is and add more banana if you want it sweeter.

Make sure your blender can handle lots of frozen fruit! If you know your blender struggles, try setting the frozen fruit out an hour before you want to make it.

Look for ripe fruit on sale. I buy bananas in huge batches (often cheaper when they are very ripe) and like to buy large quantities from Costco. Then I can plan an hour to cut up fruit, make up the individual bags, and store in the freezer.

What are the Best Liquids to Add?

My first choice is water, of course! 🙂 But here are a few more that work great in smoothies.

  • Milk and milk alternatives (soy, almond, oat, etc.)
  • Juices (orange, grape, apple, etc.)
  • Seltzer
  • Coconut Water

  1. Great recipes…Just AWESOME! I have acid reflux. The smoothies will be great for me (short and sweet). I will be trying a lot of your recipes😃❤️

  2. Wow amazing healthy smoothies…very practical easy to serve! Let’s collab one day coz I have my own signature smoothies it’s called Papaya Surprise and my Specialry Soup it’s called Riz Lapazbatchoi 🍜🍜🍜🥰♥️ Invite me one of your show 🙋🏻‍♀️😇

  3. Can’t wait to try these recipes my problem is I have a kidney disease and too much potassium what could I substitute the bananas I cannot have bananas can’t wait to try them

    1. The liquid is your choice. This is what it says in the recipe:
      To Make Smoothie
Add the contents of the plastic bag to a blender and add 1 cup liquid. (If you want to add supplements in addition to the ingredients of the bag, do so now.) Add up to 3 cups depending on the consistency you prefer.

    2. I personally prefer milk. If you’re lactose intolerant or don’t drink cows milk for whatever reason, you can use almond milk or oat milk etc. You can also do a combination of milk and water… or maybe try juice! It really depends how thick you like it. Milk will make it thicker than water or juice.

      1. Thank you for answering the same question I had (that even the author of the recipe couldn’t answer)… I also would be interested in trying these, but have not made one before – so again THANK YOU!

        1. Hi Pam! Did you read the post? Where I answer all the questions? Where did I answer this exact question? Please don’t say things like “that even the author of the recipe couldn’t answer” when you are unable to READ and see that I did.

    3. I like to use pineapple juice and Greek yogurt. This combo makes any of my smoothies sweet and creamy

  4. Of the original 4 recipes all, except the Pink Smoothie, have kale as an ingredient. What does the kale do for the recipe? If the kale was left out (think not on hand rather than don’t like veges 😊), what would need to be added to maintain the smoothie consistency?

    1. I use spinach as this I find is less bitter and also what I have on hand for salads. I don’t really think it changes the consistency much at all though if you leave it out

  5. When I make my smoothies add fruit to blender for liquids I use coconut water cup full & water cupfull.
