Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks / 227 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon McCormick Vanilla Extract
  • ½ teaspoon McCormick Almond Extract
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 ¼ cups (281 g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (94 g) unsweetened cocoa

Chocolate Glaze Frosting

  • 1 cup (125 g) confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon McCormick Vanilla
  • 1 ounce melted chocolate (I used milk chocolate)
  • chocolate jimmies, for sprinkling

Instructions

Chocolate Sugar Cookies

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • In the bowl of your mixer, cream butter and sugar until smooth, about 3 minutes. Add in extracts and egg.
  • In a separate bowl combine baking powder, salt, flour, and cocoa powder, and add a little at a time to the wet ingredients. The dough will be stiff.
  • Roll out ¼-inch thick onto a floured surface and cut with cookie cutter.
  • Bake for 6-9 minutes. Let cool on the cookie sheet. Cool completely before frosting.

Chocolate Glaze Frosting

  • Add sugar, milk, vanilla, and melted chocolate to the bowl and whisk until fully combined. Frosting will not be overly runny. Pour into piping bag and pipe onto cookies or simply spread with offest spatula.
Cover with chocolate jimmies if desired.
