  • 1 package (15.25 ounces) white cake mix
  • 1 teaspoon homemade apple pie spice
  • 2/3 cup (168g) evaporated milk, divided
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup (170g) (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 package (11 ounces) caramel bits*
  • 1 can (20 ounces) apple pie filling


  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together cake mix, apple pie spice, 1/3 cup of evaporated milk, vanilla, and melted butter. Mix until smooth.
  • Pour half of the batter into a greased 9x13 pan and smooth out to create an even layer.
  • Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, mix together caramels and 1/3 cup of evaporated milk.
  • Remove from oven, top with apple pie filling, and then caramel mixture (reserve some for topping later).
  • Crumble remaining batter on top.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.


*If you do not have caramel bits you can use caramel squares or jarred caramel sauce.
