Ingredients

Filling

  • 10 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 10 cups)
  • 1 cup (200 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Topping

  • 1 cup (90 g) old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup (1 stick / 113 g) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  • Place sliced apples into the bowl of a slow cooker. Add brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Stir gently to make sure every piece of apple is covered in the sugar mixture.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Pour in the melted butter. Using a fork, mix everything together until coarse crumbs form.
  • Pour the oat mixture over the apples, spreading it out into an even layer.
  • Cover and cook on high for 2 hours, checking the apples at 1 ½ hours (or on low for 4 hours), or until the apples are softened.
  • Remove the lid. Cook for 20-30 more minutes, allowing the topping to crisp up slightly.
