Chocolate Eggnog

Are you looking for a flavorful twist on a holiday classic? This Chocolate Eggnog is homemade eggnog with rich melted chocolate and an optional splash of spiced rum (but it is just as delicious without the rum). Then, I like to top my creamy, chocolatey drink with a dollop of whipped cream and some chocolate shavings, which makes it look as good as it tastes!

Ingredients

  • 1 recipe eggnog, or 3 cups store-bought
  • 1 cup (168 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup (112 g) spiced rum, optional
  • whipped cream, for garnish
  • chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, heat the eggnog over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it reaches a gentle simmer. Do not let it boil.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and immediately add the chocolate chips. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
  • If using, stir in the rum until well combined.
  • Transfer the mixture to a heatproof bowl or pitcher. Serve immediately for warm chocolate eggnog, or cover and refrigerate for 1 hour until chilled.
  • For serving, pour into serving mugs and garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
