Chocolate Eggnog
Are you looking for a flavorful twist on a holiday classic? This Chocolate Eggnog is homemade eggnog with rich melted chocolate and an optional splash of spiced rum (but it is just as delicious without the rum). Then, I like to top my creamy, chocolatey drink with a dollop of whipped cream and some chocolate shavings, which makes it look as good as it tastes!

- 1 recipe eggnog, or 3 cups store-bought
- 1 cup (168 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup (112 g) spiced rum, optional
- whipped cream, for garnish
- chocolate shavings, for garnish
In a medium saucepan, heat the eggnog over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it reaches a gentle simmer. Do not let it boil.
Remove the saucepan from heat and immediately add the chocolate chips. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
If using, stir in the rum until well combined.
Transfer the mixture to a heatproof bowl or pitcher. Serve immediately for warm chocolate eggnog, or cover and refrigerate for 1 hour until chilled.
For serving, pour into serving mugs and garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
