The BEST Homemade Chocolate Milk

  • This is quite possibly the easiest and cheapest and best option for Chocolate Milk.  I am talking BEST chocolate milk I have had.  Granted, I have only ever had the stuff from the grocery store.  But its WAAAAYYYYY better than that. 🙂 If you loving making things from scratch, be sure to try my Homemade Yellow Cake Mix or From-Scratch Dinner Rolls!

    Not only is it only four ingredients, but you can customize the ingredients to fit your diet!

    • milk
    • cocoa powder
    • confectioners sugar
    • vanilla

    I like to use whole milk, good quality cocoa powder, organic confectioners sugar, and the best quality vanilla I can find, which is McCormick Extra Rich Vanilla Extract.

    How to Make Chocolate Milk for Your Diet

    Want all organic?   Simply choose organic ingredients!  Need dairy free?  Try almond milk.  Want gluten free?  Try raw sugar, natural dark cocoa powder (not cocoa mixes), and pure vanilla extract.  If you want sugar free try replacing the sugar with liquid Stevia.     How to Make Chocolate Milk

    There are a few easy ways to make homemade chocolate milk. The recipe below utilizes a blender, but you could also just stir the ingredients by hand. Another method would be to add all the ingredients to a jar that you have a lid for. Add ingredients, place lid on top, and then shake shake shake!

    What else can you add to Homemade Chocolate Milk?

    Some folks like to add a little cinnamon (I tried this and didn’t like it) or nutmeg. Others have added about a tablespoon of butter to the blender while mixing. Want it thicker? Try adding a teaspoon for cornstarch before blending.

    • 3 cups milk, we prefer whole
    • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
    • 2 tablespoons powder sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon good quality vanilla
    1. Pour milk into blender. Add in cocoa, powder sugar, and vanilla. Blend all ingredients until fully incorporated, about 30 seconds. Re-blend as needed. 

    2. Serve and enjoy!
    3. This will last about one week covered in the fridge. (Or the life of the milk)

    I thought this was great — followed the recipe exactly, then added a pinch of salt and both my husband and I loved it. I originally dont like really sweet things (most U.S sweets) so I personally thought that the sweetness was spot-on.

    For a gallon of chocolate milk, use 8 tbsp. Cocoa, 1/4 cup Pyure stevia (the more concentrated stuff, not the baking blend) dissolve in a bit of hot water. I than dumped this into a jug of raw milk fresh from my family farm. Yum! Guilt free too!

    this recipe is HORRIBLE. it tastes nothing like store-bought chocolate milk. it’s horribly bitter and tasteless. find another recipe! beware! all of these people that enjoy this are crazy. lol

      Or, maybe people who like it enjoy something that is REAL ingredients. I am not trying to replicate the heavy chemical flavor of store bought chocolate milk, I am sharing a recipe that is real.

      Of course it doesnt taste like store bought chocolate milk, it has no artificial ingredients or high fructose corn syrup. I’m bet you hate the taste of maple syrup too. and use pancake syrup (high fructose corn syrup) instead

    I actually quite loved this! Just made a batch. I put in I think about another big spoonful of powdered sugar because I didn’t feel like it was sweet enough. I don’t have a blender, so I used an electric whisk and sifted the powder ingredients before I started mixing. The only drawback is that you can’t drink it right away becasue of the foam, haha, So I had to wait for the goodness to settle!

      Thought it was great! I’d probably add a little more sugar for my own personal taste (I’m a big fan of the store bought kind) but otherwise you cannot beat the ease of this recipe. I won’t buy Store bought again.

    YUM. I loooooove this! I’ve had a craving for chocolate milk for a few days and this really hit the spot! I think I might add some more sugar next time because I have such a sweet tooth but otherwise, this is excellent!!!!

    Thank you for this recipe. I made it as posted and it was perfect for my tastes. After reading the comments I will try it with honey, maybe the salt addition or almond extract. I’ve been wanting chocolate milk after my workouts and this fits…not too sweet like all storebought chocolate milk.

    I used Special Dark Chocolate powder and it came out great! Next time I will probably add another scoop of the powdered sugar and whole milk just to help add a thickness and more sweetness!

    Add a tsp of cornstarch disolved in a tbs of warm water. This thickens it.

    Do not trust the negatives, homemade is best and more healthy, all junk in stores are loaded with chemicals that can hurt you, it probably wont taste the same, but it should still be good, my family buys organic and even organic m and ms candy tastes exactly like the real thing. Heres my recipe of chocolate milk if you want, 1 tbsp cocoa powder, 1/8 tsp butter, 3 tsp of powdered sugar, and a literal cup of milk, blend it, and it tastes just like hersheys chocolate syrup, well maybe for me.

    I don’t know about anyone else but most of my chocolate just sat in this foam on top of the milk… It didn’t really combine. Am I missing a step orsomething? It was suggested to me I should heat everything up until it combines.

    This simple recipe was very delicious with the latte type foam rising to the top of my cup. I used pure cane sugar and a table spoon of vanilla while blending for 30 seconds until no cocoa or sugar deposits were no longer visible. The next time I will use dark Chocolate and cream.

    I loved this!! I made the mistake of not using a blender when mixing. I attempted to do it manualy and ended up making a mess haha. But even so this was so flavorful, and easy to make. For a litte exta something I suggest a teaspoon or so of expresso powder. It was the exta flavor that really did it for me.
