I dont know about where you live, but here in Minnesota it has been cold. Not just any old cold (we are very used to that!) but bone chilling, frigid, you-are-not-advised-to-leave-your-house cold.
We have gotten snow storm after snow storm piling up snow everywhere around us.
Its been a tough last few months, even as a native mid-westerner, because of the unusally low temps and high amount of snow fall.
And from what I gather, the whole US has had a colder than normal winter… more snow, more rain, more ice.
But you know what has remained consistent through it all?
Know what was there for me each and every day even if I was too cold to go and get it?
My mail.
I dont know about you, but any job that requires you to be outside, in the elements, especially when the elements are a trecherous as they have been, gets my full on respect and admiration.
I wanted to do something nice for my mailman, just to let him know how appreciated he is!
So I made cookies. I know, I know. Not exactly something to write home about.
Heh. Heh. Get it. Write home??? Sorry. Couldnt resist.
On a whim I decided to jazz up this cookie with a mini postman in the corner. Then I screwed up his eyes and had to add sunglasses. Then realized he’s missing a nose.
I need to learn to control my whims better.
These are based on the UN-official motto of the United States Post Office.
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”
But I got to thinking… you dont have to to make cookies for your mail person… why not just say “Thanks!” next time you see them? Or wave and smile?
Or better yet, stock up on 75% off Valentines Day candy and drop some off on your way home.
Its just a good idea in general to stock up on massive amounts of cheap candy right?
Anyway, it just seemed like a good idea to give those hard working mail carriers a thumbs up from the crazy lady on the block. (me)
And that concludes my public service announcement.
It’s too bad you missed Thank a Mailman Day on Feb. 4th! I made a cake for the post office my dad works at!
These are sooooo cute!
And you are super lucky- here in England EVERYTHING stops for the snow- in fact our entire transport system comes to halt if there’s so much as a leaf fallen onto a train track and in my area our postman spends sunny days sunbathing, rainy days watching tv and when it snows.. Well he’s probably on holiday on some tropical island.
I will add “awesome postal service” to my list of reasons to move to America!
I love your blog and am really glad you’re on facebook now too!x
You’re just amazing girl. Wish I were your mailman.
Or mail person…whatever it’s called, wish I were it.
; )
Super adorable, Amanda! We did something nice for our UPS guy too. I made him oreo and candy corn bark for Christmas, which he said turned his whole week around. Totally love being able to do that for someone with a little bit of cooking 🙂

Lucky mailperson!!!!!!!!!!!!
yay! I often bake my mailman cookies. Mainly on holidays but also when i’ve had a lot of packages dropped off. He’s awesome and apparently his wife likes my baking 🙂
I love the cookies, they’re so cute! I live with two mail persons and let me assure you any thank you they get means so much. They work long days in bad weather and good… and they really do care about your mail.
