“Welcome to REI.  Can I help you folks?”

We were greeted when we walked in the door.  Pleasantly.

I gotta tell you, it sorta threw me for a loop!  Normally people catch a glance at me desperately trying to wrangle three kids and a baby and roll their eyes or make a bee-line in the opposite direction.

But on this day, we were greeted.

I have never been to an REI store.  I sorta figured they were for the more “athletic” types.

While the store was filled with well toned, well tanned, and perfectly tenacious folks, I didn’t feel out of place.

They actually had stuff that I was really, really interested in knowing more about!

Like “green” products.

Although I wouldn’t classify myself as a “green” mom, that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to be more educated about all the ways that I can be more responsible.  They actually had an entire section of green stuff!

It was cool.

And kid stuff.

They are kid experts. And that my dear friends, is my love language.

They know how to get kids to exercise.  How to feed kids.  How to keep them properly hydrated. How to dress appropriately in the sun.

And they even how to entertain kids with cardboard shoe horns with their dad tries on seventeen different pairs of hiking sandals.  (totally not making that up)

My kids oohhed and aahhed over their Adventure Journal while “camping” in one of the display tents.

I even found matching shirts and vests for all my kids on sale.  Seriously, the sale racks were off the hook!  (yes, I just said off the hook.  And it felt good, so there.)

There were these adorable pink baby Ugg boots on sale for dirt cheap which I totally would have bought had I not given birth to a boy and it wasn’t 90 degrees here.

Just sayin.

Now.

Because the folks at REI are so dang generous, they are going to let me give away a $100 gift card to one of you!!

Since most of you reading my blog are parents, you are going to have to trust me on something.

Your kids will ADORE it.

Bring the whole family and have a blast finding the perfect outdoorsy essentials!

Or you can just get some awesome clothes that will make you happy.

  1. ooh, i’d love to get a bigger tent for our bigger family:) we haven’t camped since we had kids three years ago–and they’d love it.

  2. I pledge to go bike riding more with the hubby! And if I won the $100 gift card it would go towards a new bike for my husband who bought me a new bike and selflessly has been using his 6 year old bike. I would love to do something special for him! 🙂

  3. Outdoor activities are a big way that my family spends time together. This summer, we have pledged to spend more time together doing activities such as hiking, biking, and camping. A $100 REI giftcard could help us get there by allowing us to provide various supplies for the activities that we might not otherwise be able to afford.

  4. I would love to take my two kids…1 and 3 bike riding in a bike trailer. The gift certificate would definitely help with that goal.

  5. I decided maybe I should give my husband a break sometimes too. I am always pushing him, lets hike, lets bike, lets kayak, lets, lets, lets… But I was in REI recently & spotted some travel hammocks. I thought, how perfect would that be? I have a favorite spot in the mtns on a lake. We could kayak & then lay out in our hammocks because this spot has just the right cluster of trees by the waters edge. To lay there under the trees , listening to the water lap, looking at the wildlife that freely roams through there, reading, discussing our deepest thoughts, perhaps sipping a glass of wine & oh yeah, just doing absolutely nothing for a change. All I need now is a $100 REI gift certificate to get those hammocks & let the relaxation begin.

  6. I pledge to go on more walks and bike rides as a family this year! My kids are always asking and I want to start saying “yes” more often instead of “maybe tomorrow, mama’s tired.”
Besides, now that I have a 3 week old what better way is there to burn a few calories? 🙂

  7. I pledged for an outdoor bike ride with my family, which consists of Cocker Spaniels. I’m somewhat concerned about how well the doggies will be able to bike ride, but I’m sure they’ll be excellent at jogging alongside me!

  8. I pledge to keep waking up early so I can go for bike rides without experiencing heat stroke.
