Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Butter: Unsalted butter lets you control the salt in the recipe. But, yes, you can use salted butter if thatโ€™s what you have. Just expect a slightly saltier flavor.
  • Peanut Butter: For the melt-in-your-mouth texture of the fudge, I used creamy peanut butter. It will be melted with the butter. Do not use natural peanut butter.
  • Confectioners’ Sugar: Confectionersโ€™ sugar (also called powdered sugar) helps give the fudge its smooth, creamy texture and holds everything together without needing to be cooked. Granulated sugar wonโ€™t dissolve the same way and can leave the fudge gritty, so I do not recommend using it for this recipe.

Can I Use Crunchy Peanut Butter In Fudge?

Yes, you can use crunchy peanut butter, but it will add texture with peanut pieces and make the fudge a bit less smooth. If you prefer a creamy, melt-in-your-mouth fudge, stick with creamy peanut butter.

Can I Add Chocolate Chips or Other Mix-Ins?

While I havenโ€™t tested this exact recipe with mix-ins, adding chocolate chips or nuts is usually a great way to customize peanut butter fudge. Just fold them in after mixing the sugar so theyโ€™re evenly distributed. Keep in mind that adding mix-ins may slightly change the texture or firmness. For best results, start with small amounts and adjust to your taste!

Can I Make Peanut Butter Fudge Without a Microwave?

Not this recipe. But I have a solution! If you donโ€™t have a microwave, try my other peanut butter fudge recipe that uses the stovetop for melting.

How to Store Microwave Peanut Butter Fudge

Keep your peanut butter fudge fresh by storing it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will stay good for up to 2 weeks this way. Before serving, you can let it come to room temperature for a softer texture.

Can I Freeze Peanut Butter Fudge?

Yes! To freeze peanut butter fudge, wrap individual pieces tightly in plastic wrap, then place them in a freezer-safe container or bag. It will keep well for up to 3 months. When ready to enjoy, thaw the fudge in the refrigerator before serving.
