Customize Your Apple Cider Mojito: Ingredients & Smart Substitutions

  • Mint Leaves: Mint is a classic component in mojitos, so look for fresh mint leaves for the drink and the garnish. If you don’t have mint leaves, you could use a couple of teaspoons of mint extract, but use it sparingly; it can get a little too strong! Mint-flavored liqueur like Creme de Menthe would also be an option.
  • Simple Syrup: It’s easy to make your own simple syrup. Then, you have it for all of your favorite recipes from drinks to desserts! You can also use mint-flavored syrup.
  • Lime Juice: Freshly squeezed lime juice will always give you the most flavor, but bottled juice works, too.
  • Rum: Rum is the alcoholic base of a mojito. Look for light rum, also known as white or silver rum. Or, for more apple flavor, try one with apple-spiced rum. Yum! If you don’t want the alcohol, use non-alcoholic rum.
  • Apple Cider: There is a reason this is an apple cider mojito–the apple cider! I have a wonderful recipe if you would like to use that. Store-bought cider would also work. Or, experiment with apple juice, if that is all you have on hand.
  • Club Soda: For a little fizz, I like using club soda. Sparkling water, seltzer, or lemon-lime soda would all be good alternatives.

Apple Cider Mojito Mocktail

It’s easy to make this a drink for all ages–without alcohol. To make an apple cider mojito mocktail, simply leave out the rum. Or, replace the rum with a little more apple cider or flavored sparkling water.

Can I Make A Mojito Without A Cocktail Shaker?

Absolutely! If you donโ€™t have a cocktail shaker, you can use a traveling coffee mug with a tight lid. After muddling the mint with the simple syrup, pour in the lime juice, light rum, and apple cider. Add ice, secure the lid, and shake well. Then, open the mug and pour the mixture into a glass filled with ice. Top it off with club soda. Or, skip the shaking step and simply layer the ingredients in a glass over ice, then stir to combine. Donโ€™t forget to add the garnish!

Apple Cider Mojito Recipe For Parties

If you want to prepare a large batch of this recipe for a gathering or party, it’s simple! Multiply the quantities of each ingredient by the number of servings you need. Combine the mint leaves, simple syrup, lime juice, light rum, and apple cider in a large pitcher or bowl. Cover and refrigerate for up to a day or two. When ready to serve, set out glasses, ice, the mojito mixture, and club soda. Guests can fill their glasses with ice, pour in the mojito mixture, and top with club soda. Donโ€™t forget to provide garnishes, too! Cheers!

What the Test Kitchen had to say about this recipe:

Autumn

This is pretty good! The apple cider adds a nice fall flavor, and the mint really pops. It's a fun twist on the classic.

Elizabeth

This was okay. I do like apple cider, but I have not had many mojitos. I liked the crispness of it, if that makes sense!

Bella

Not bad! The apple cider is a nice touch and gives the mojito a bit of a fall vibe.

Selena

If you like apple flavors, you will probably like this drink! I didn't know what to expect, but it was better than I thought it would be.
