Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Apple Pie Filling: I use apple pie filling for quick and easy apple flavor. Chop the apples into smaller pieces so they fit better inside the dough and cook evenly. You can use store-bought or try my homemade apple pie filling for even more flavor! Mix the pie filling with ground cinnamon.
  • Biscuits: I use Pillsbury Grands biscuits because theyโ€™re soft, fluffy, and easy to fill. Make sure to grab the regular kind, not the flaky layers. The flaky ones pull apart too easily and donโ€™t hold the filling as well.
  • Glaze: The sweet glaze is made with just confectioners’ sugar (also called powdered sugar) and milk, so simple but so good. It adds that classic apple fritter flavor and makes each bite extra delicious.

Can I Make Apple Fritter Bombs Ahead Of Time?

Yes, you can assemble the apple fritter bombs ahead of time. Once theyโ€™re filled and sealed, place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and cover tightly with plastic wrap. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before air frying or baking. When ready to cook, just follow the instructions; no need to bring them to room temperature.

Do You Need to Glaze the Apple Fritters?

Glazing the apple fritter bombs is optional, but it adds that classic sweet touch! The glaze makes them extra delicious and gives them that signature apple fritter flavor. If you prefer a lighter option, you can skip the glaze or drizzle just a little over the top.

Can I Make This With Other Pie Fillings?

Yes, you can use other pie fillings in these air fryer bombs! Cherry, blueberry, or peach pie filling all work great. In fact, I do have cherry pie bombs, blueberry pie bombs, and piรฑa colada bombs, too, if you want to try other flavors! Just chop the fruit into smaller pieces so it fits inside the biscuit dough. Itโ€™s an easy way to switch up the flavor while using the same quick recipe.

How To Store Apple Fritter Bombs

Store leftover apple fritter bombs in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. If you chilled them, warm them up in the microwave or air fryer for a few seconds before serving to bring back that soft, fresh texture.

Can I Freeze Apple Fritter Bombs?

Absolutely! To freeze, first, let the apple fritter bombs cool completely. Then, place them in a freezer-safe container or zip-top bag. Freeze for up to 2 months. You can freeze them with the glaze, but the glaze may turn a little cloudy or soft after thawing. For the best texture and appearance, itโ€™s better to freeze them without the glaze and add it fresh after reheating. When ready to enjoy, thaw the pie bombs at room temperature or in the refrigerator overnight. Then warm them in the microwave for 15โ€“20 seconds or in the air fryer at 300ยฐF for 3โ€“4 minutes, until heated through. Add glaze if needed and enjoy!

These easy Apple Fritter Bombs are made with biscuit dough, apple pie filling, and a sweet glaze, just like a mini apple fritter! Cook them in the air fryer for a quick, golden brown treat, or bake them in the oven if you donโ€™t have an air fryer. Warm cinnamon apples inside and a soft doughy outside make them the perfect quick dessert or anytime sweet snack.

Ingredients

Glaze

  • 3 cups (375 g) confectionersโ€™ sugar
  • 4-6 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine the diced apple pie filling and cinnamon. Mix well and set aside.
  • Remove biscuits from the can. Separate each biscuit into two layers to make 16 rounds.
  • Flatten each piece into about a 5-inch circle.
  • Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the apple mixture into the center of each dough circle.
  • Fold up the sides and pinch tightly to seal. Roll each filled biscuit gently into a smooth ball.
  • Spray the air fryer basket with nonstick spray.
  • Place balls into the basket about 2 inches apart. (Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may have to work in batches.)
  • Air fry* at 350ยฐF for 8โ€“9 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • While the bombs cook, whisk together the confectionersโ€™ sugar and milk until smooth. The glaze should be thick, yet pourable; add more milk a few drops at a time if too thick.
  • Once the bombs are done, let them cool for 2โ€“3 minutes. (They should still be warm, but not piping hot).
  • Dip each bomb into the glaze, or drizzle glaze generously over the tops.
  • Set glazed bombs on a wire rack over parchment to catch drips.
  • Allow the glaze to set slightly (about 5โ€“10 minutes) before serving.
  • Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

  7. Place glazed bombs on a wire rack set over parchment to catch any drips.
  8. Let the glaze set for 5โ€“10 minutes, then serve and enjoy!
