Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Rum: We can’t have a rum and coke (or this slushie) without the rum! Look for light rum, also called white or silver rum.
  • Coca-Colaยฎ: A rum and coke is made with, you guessed it, rum and coke! I used a can of Coca-Cola, but you could use any brand of cola.
  • Frozen Cherries: I used a cup and a half of frozen pitted sweet cherries for the slushie, but you can substitute with tart cherries for a tangier flavor or use any frozen cherry variety you prefer.
  • Whipped Cream: Whipped cream is added to the slushie for a creamy, sweet topping that balances the tangy and fizzy flavors, making the drink extra refreshing. And it makes the drink look pretty, too!
  • Maraschino Cherries: Maraschino cherries are a classic garnish- they are sweet, bright, and easy to find! If you want a citrusy touch, add a twist of lime or an orange slice.

Can I Use Fresh Cherries Instead Of Frozen In A Rum and Cherry Coke Slushie?

Yes, you can use fresh cherries instead of frozen, but the slushie might not be as thick or icy. Frozen cherries help create that smooth, slushy texture. If you use fresh cherries, you may need to add more ice to achieve the same consistency. You can also freeze fresh cherries yourself to use later for the same icy, slushy effect. Just freeze them in a single layer on a baking sheet before storing them in an airtight container.

Can I Substitute Coca-Cola With Other Sodas?

Yes, you can definitely use other sodas in this cherry rum and coke slushie! You could use any cola or try other flavors like cherry cola (for even more cherry flavor), root beer, or ginger ale. For a lower-calorie option, use diet cola.

Can I Make A Cherry Rum and Coke Slushie Without Alcohol?

Yes, you can easily make this slushie without alcohol. Simply leave out the rum, and youโ€™ll still have a delicious, refreshing cherry cola slushie! It’s perfect for a family-friendly version or anyone looking to enjoy the slushie without the alcohol.

This is not my favorite drink because I am not a fan of rum. But, I could try it with vodka or whiskey!

This is really good! And I think it has just the right amount of sweetness (for me, anyway).
