Lava Flow Drink is a tropical blended cocktail that combines the flavors of strawberries, pineapple, and coconut. It has a stunning visual appearance when the red layer flows into the creamy coconut layer, like an erupting volcano! Ingredients & Substitutions
Strawberries: Using frozen strawberries helps create a slushie consistency by providing a solid and icy base. If using fresh strawberries, add about a cup of ice to the blender to get the same frosty texture.
Coconut Rum: Coconut rum is a coconut-flavored, white rum-based liqueur. Choose your favorite brand (like Malibou) to use.
Light Rum: I added light rum to this drink. It is also known as white or silver rum and has a light flavor with little to no color. It is commonly added to mojitos like my cranberry lime mojito.
Banana: One ripe banana is all you need for the banana flavor.
Pineapple: Besides pineapple juice (look for 100% juice), serve the drink with a pineapple wedge to really give it that tropical vibe.
Coconut Milk: In some lava flow drink recipes, coconut cream is added. However, I used coconut milk. To still get a creamy consistency, use full-fat milk. Of course, you could also use coconut cream if you have it on hand. Coconut cream is a thick cream made from coconut milk and will give you a creamier drink.
Why Is It Called A Lava Flow Drink?
This cocktail is a lava flow cocktail because of the appearance when the layers are added to a glass. Its vibrant red and creamy white layers are reminiscent of the fiery and molten lava cascading down the sides of a volcano. It also puts you in the mindset of a tropical adventure!
Can I Make A Lava Flow Drink Without Alcohol?
Yes! If you want to leave out the alcohol, you will still get the fruity and creamy flavors. Blend the strawberries, banana, pineapple juice, and coconut milk. Add sugar or sweetener if needed.

This drink is like a vacation in a glass. On one side you get a strawberry daiquiri and on the other side a pina colada. Or you could be like me and mix them together. What a fun summer drink!

This is such a fun, yummy drink for summer. I loved the blended, icy fruit mixed with the coconut milk! I could taste the rum, but it wasn't overpowering. YUM
Ten out of ten!
I skip the real banana and add a banana rum floater on top 😊🍹
Can you make this a non alcoholic drink?
Replace the rum with pineapple juice.
This is also known as a Miami Vice.
No, it’s not. That is a different drink. 🙂
Do you use coconut cream or coconut milk with this?
The recipe calls for coconut milk.
I use coconut cream and it turned out better if you want a more of a coconut flavor
