Ingredients & Substitutions

Homemade Bisquick: Homemade Bisquick is a copycat of the pre-packaged baking mix you can buy at the store. But, homemade mix lets you know exactly what is going into it without unwanted added preservatives. Plus, once you make a batch, you can store it for up to 3 months to use in a variety of recipes.

Milk: Using whole milk adds richness to the batter. However, you could use lower-fat milk if preferred. Using milk that is lower in fat (like 2% or 1%) will result in a slightly lighter texture, but still give you delicious pancakes!

Oil: Vegetable oil is added to the batter as well as used to grease the skillet or griddle. You could also use nonstick cooking spray to prepare the skillet or griddle.

Eggs: For best results, use room-temperature eggs. When eggs are at room temperature, they mix well with other ingredients, making the batter smoother and more uniform. It also helps with the rise and fluffiness of the pancakes.

Can I Use Store-bought Bisquick?

Yes, you can use store-bought Bisquick, but making homemade Bisquick is appealing when it comes to knowing exactly what is in the mix. It is also very simple to make; my recipe has only four ingredients! In addition, homemade mixes are often fresher than store-bought and can be more cost-effective.

How To Serve Bisquick Pancakes

There are many delicious ways to enjoy homemade Bisquick pancakes! Of course, there is always butter and maple syrup, which I love, but there are other ways to enjoy pancakes, too! Here are some variations to try:

  • Top with fresh fruit or fruit compote.
  • Add a dollop of whipped cream.
  • Sprinkle chocolate chips or chocolate chunks into the pancake batter or on top of the pancakes.
  • Spread peanut butter, almond butter, or your favorite nut butter on top of warm pancakes.
  • Drizzle warm Nutella, chocolate syrup, or warm caramel sauce over pancakes.
  • For a special treat, serve pancakes with a scoop of ice cream!
  • Spoon your favorite yogurt on top of the pancakes and drizzle with honey.

Storing & Reheating Homemade Pancakes

Although best served hot off of the griddle (or skillet), you can store leftover pancakes to enjoy later. First, let cooked pancakes cool before storing them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days. To freeze them, separate the pancakes with parchment paper and store them in a freezer-safe zipped bag or container. Label and date the packaging; they will last up to 2 months. When ready to enjoy, simply place the pancakes (either refrigerated or frozen) into the microwave to warm them up again. You can also heat pancakes in the oven, covered with aluminum foil, for 8-10 minutes at 350°F.

Bisquick™ Pancakes are light, fluffy, easy-to-make pancakes that are made with homemade Bisquick for a personal touch. Using made-from-scratch Bisquick allows you to control what ingredients are added to the mix so you can feel good about serving a plate of pancakes to your family!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (240 g) Bisquick
  • 1 cup (245 g) whole milk, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, plus more for greasing skillet or griddle
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature

Instructions

  • To a large bowl, add Bisquick, milk, oil, and eggs. Stir just until all ingredients are mixed well.
  • Grease a nonstick skillet or griddle with oil. Heat over medium heat (about 300°F).
  • When hot, pour ¼ cup of batter into the skillet.
  • Working in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan, add more pancake batter. Cook the pancakes for 3-4 minutes, or until the bubbles begin popping on top and they are golden brown.
  • Gently, but quickly, flip over the pancakes. Cook an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the other side is also golden brown. Place onto a plate as you continue making the rest of the pancakes.
  • Before the next batch, wipe out the pan with a paper towel and repeat with the remaining pancake batter.
  • Serve warm, topped with maple syrup or your favorite toppings.
