Blueberry Lemonade is a refreshingly sweet and tart beverage made with homemade blueberry syrup and freshly squeezed lemon juice. It’s a delicious and vibrant drink for all ages that you will want to add to your list of Summer Drink Recipes, for sure! If you are not in the mood for (or don’t have) blueberries, check out my homemade lemonade for a classic summer staple to sip!
Ingredients & Substitutions
Blueberries: The star of this drink is the homemade blueberry syrup. It is made by boiling blueberries with sugar and water. It only takes a few minutes, and sets the drink apart from store-bought options. If using frozen blueberries, first, let them thaw a bit before making the syrup. I like to add a few extra blueberries to the glass for garnish.
Lemons: For the most authentic lemon flavor, freshly squeeze 4-5 lemons for about a cup of lemon juice. Have a few extra lemons on hand to slice for garnish. Or, you could add lemonade to the drink.
Can I Make The Blueberry Syrup Ahead Of Time?
Sure! Making the blueberry syrup for the blueberry lemonade takes a few minutes, so it can be made in advance. Once made, store the syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will last up to 2 weeks. Or, freeze the syrup for up to 2-3 months. Let it thaw in the refrigerator when ready to mix the drink.
Spiked Blueberry Lemonade
If you are looking for an adult beverage, it’s easy to make this drink into a blueberry lemonade cocktail! In fact, I already have a recipe for a spiked blueberry lemonade you will want to check out. I add vodka to the drink with a little club soda for carbonation. Cheers!
How To Store Blueberry Lemonade
Once mixed, store the blueberry lemonade in the refrigerator. It will last up to a few days, but the sooner it is enjoyed, the fresher and better it will be!
Blueberry Lemonade
Ingredients
- 1 cup (148 g) blueberries
- ยพ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
- 4 cups cold water, divided
- 4-5 large lemons, freshly squeezed (about 1 cup juice)
- crushed ice
- lemon slices, for garnish
- blueberries, for garnish
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine blueberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently until the sugar dissolves and the blueberries start to burst, about 5-7 minutes.
- Mash the blueberries to release more flavor.
- Place a fine mesh sieve over a medium bowl and carefully pour the blueberry mixture through it. Using the back of a spoon, press down on the solids in the sieve to extract as much liquid as possible. Set in the refrigerator to cool slightly. Dispose of the solids once strained.
- In a large pitcher, combine the lemon juice, blueberry syrup, and the remaining 3 cups of water. Stir to combine.
- Fill a tall glass with crushed ice, pour the lemonade over the ice, and garnish with lemon slices and blueberries.
