Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Granulated Sugar: For the rim. You can use superfine sugar for a smoother coating or mix with a tiny pinch of cinnamon for a twist.
  • Orange Juice: Freshly squeezed is best for bright flavor, but store-bought 100% juice works in a pinch.
  • Pomegranate Juice: Adds tart sweetness and gorgeous color. You can use a pomegranate molasses-water mix if you want a more intense flavor.
  • Silver Tequila: Smooth and light. Blanco or reposado works too.
  • Triple Sec: Classic orange liqueur. Cointreau or Grand Marnier can be swapped in for a richer orange flavor.
  • Lime Juice: Fresh is key. Avoid bottled for the best zing.
  • Garnishes (optional): Orange slices and pomegranate seeds make the drink pretty, but aren’t necessary for flavor.

Tips & Variations

  • Extra sweet: Add a little simple syrup if your oranges are on the tart side.
  • Frozen version: Blend all ingredients with ice for a slushy margarita.
  • Mocktail version: Skip the tequila and triple sec; use club soda or sparkling water for a refreshing alcohol-free option.
  • Batching: Multiply ingredients for a pitcher if serving a crowd. Shake or stir well and serve over ice.
