Have you ever made homemade Peppermint Patties? ย I did for the first time last year, and man are they easy. ย And SO delicious. ย Because of my great love for these delectable palate cleansers, I decided to give them a fun twist!
Chocolate Pumpkin Patties
Ingredients
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 6 c powder sugar
- 1/4 tsp. pumpkin extract*
- McCormicks Red Food Coloring
- McCormicks Yellow Food Coloring
- 3 c semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 3 tbsp. shortening
Instructions
- Place sweetened condensed milk, powder sugar, 6 drops of McCormicks red food coloring, 9 drops of
- McCormicks yellow food coloring, and pumpkin extract into mixer.
- Start on slow and let all ingredients blend together. If mixer seems to struggle, you can go up one speed.
- Once powder sugar is mostly incorporated you can increase speed until mixture is fully combined.
- Take a heaping tablespoon and roll it into a ball. Place on baking sheet. My baking sheet fit about 24.
- Take a glass and press each ball down into a flat disc.
- Do this to all the pumpkin mixture and then place in the freezer for 15-30 minutes.
- Place semi-sweet chocolate into a microwave safe container and melt chocolate in 30-second increments, stirring well after each 30-second interval. When chocolate is mostly melted (some chunks can remain) add in shortening. Place back in microwave for 15-30 seconds.
- Remove one tray of pumpkin discs from freezer. Place one disc on fork and dip into thin chocolate mixture. Let excess chocolate fall back into bowl and then place chocolate covered pumpkin disc on parchment lined baking sheet. Chill for 30 minutes (or an hour at room temperature) and enjoy!

Did you make this recipe?
Thank you for making my recipe! You took pictures, right? Well go ahead and post them on Instagram! Be sure to mention me @iambaker and use the hashtag #YouAreBaker.
I found the extract atย King Arthur Flour. ย This is not your mama’s extract, and really pacts a punch! ย They recommend using 1/8 to 1/4 tsp in baking and I totally agree.
For as easy as these are to make, you would notย believeย how decadent they taste.
I love to bake! We make cut-out sugar cookies in Fall shapes. ๐
Oh my! Thank you so much for the great recipe! So fast and easy to make… I made those with almond extract instead of pumpkin extract… and they were YUMMY! (notice the past tense…) I love your blog! ๐
What a brilliant idea – am making these to serve after dinner on Thanksgiving!
So now, I think THAT is a brilliant idea! ๐
Because I’ve just my 59th move in 59yrs. (*married to a preacher/coach and my dad was a preacher) I’m just too tired to decorate our home we just moved into 4 months ago. So, I’m headed straight to Christmas. I gave my beautiful 9 1/2ft. Christmas tree away, so found a little white naked tree at Goodwill for $6. So here I am in an unfinished house w/company coming Sunday and then it will be a steady stream of company for the Holidays. I just found your website and LOVE it.
My ?Question:
I would LOVE to make these peppermint patties for Christmas but would love the inside to be red and have a kick to them. Any suggestions????
I’m looking for easy (bt look expensive and elegant) recipes for the Holidays.
Any suggestions???
Thank you for sharing your lovely ideas with us.
Wishing you a blessed Season where we celebrate our Lord!
