Frozen Hot Chocolate

This Frozen Hot Chocolate is my go-to when I’m craving chocolate but want something cold and refreshing. It’s rich, creamy, and tastes like a milkshake and hot cocoa had a baby. I love sipping it as an afternoon treat or even as a simple dessert. The base is made with melted milk chocolate and homemade chocolate milk powder, then blended with ice until it’s perfectly smooth. A little homemade whipped topping and chocolate syrup make it feel extra special!

Raw Ingredients for Frozen Hot Chocolate.

Ingredients

Chocolate: I used milk chocolate chips in this recipe.

Hot Cocoa MixYou can use storebought cocoa mix, or make your own homemade chocolate milk powder to use!

Milk: Warm up the milk to about 110°F. The warm milk will help the chocolate not to seize.

Toppings: Make the drink even sweeter and more delicious by added whipped topping and chocolate syrup on top!

Why is it Called Frozen Hot Chocolate?

How can something be both hot and frozen? The name is a little bit of an oxymoron, but it makes sense once you see how it’s made. You’re blending hot cocoa mix (and melted chocolate) with ice, so you get all the chocolatey flavor of hot cocoa in a cold, slushy form.

Can I use a Different Chocolate?

Absolutely. Milk chocolate is my preference here, but semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips work well if you want something a little less sweet.

How to Store Frozen Hot Chocolate

This drink is best enjoyed right away. Once blended, the ice will start to melt and the texture will change if it sits too long.

If you have leftovers, pour them into an airtight container or jar and store in the refrigerator for up to a few hours. Give it a good stir or a quick blend before serving again. Add the whipped topping and chocolate syrup just before drinking so they stay fresh and look their best.

  1. I live in AZ where the weather is hot hot 🥵 in the summer. Thanks for the frozen hot chocolate recipe!!! I will definitely use it!!

  2. Hi Amanda can u make something for those who are hypoglycemic 🤷‍♀️I love to try your frozen hot chocolate 🤪

  3. It’ll be interesting to try this. The recipe on the back of the hot chocolate mix I use has ice cream in it instead of the milk and sugar, so it will be fun (and tasty) to compare the two.
