I used my basic white cake recipe.  I whipped up a batch of buttercream, added some purple and piped away.

  1. Wow! Usually when you cut a cake it destroys the design. But I do believe this cake is even prettier as slices than it is as a whole. Lovely, just lovely. Did you use several different tints of purple for the icing, or did you just not mix it thoroughly in order to have different shades?
