When we moved into our new home in June I had no idea where all my side plates and cutting boards and cake stands would go. My dream would be that they are all out and accessible, but the reality was that many would have to be stored in boxes and in closets.
But then my amazing husband came up with the idea of utilizing a large closet just off the kitchen.
So he got out his tools and measured and shopped for supplies. He was going to make my dreams come true!
Is that weird? That I dream of prop closets?
Dont answer that.
And he built me shelves all the way up a 13 foot wall. All. The. Way. Up.
And I said, “Are you nuts?!?”
And he smirked. And I thought to myself, “I am going to buy more cake stands.”
And he said, “Dont even think about buying more cake stands.”
He built them, and then he left for a week long fishing trip to Canada.
Trust me, he earned it. Did I mention that wall is 13 feet high?
Do you want to know how I even get all the stands on the shelves? Well, like pimpin’, it aint easy. I used this handy dandy ladder which has now found a home in that closet.

Surprisingly enough, it turns out I did have enough cake stands to fill that whole wall. Who knew? (my husband)
Not only did I have enough to fill that wall, I may even have to get rid of some of the stands to make my favorites fit.

As any food blogger knows, you have to have backgrounds and side plates and silverware… so all that fun stuff has made its home here as well. In our previous home everything was scattered throughout the house and garage and I never knew how much “stuff” had accumulated.
One time I went in there and just hung out. I am considering getting a Keurig, a comfy chair, and a little shelf for my computer. So I can spend all my working hours in a tiny little room full of stuff.
That wouldnt be weird right?

I so “get” where you are! First let me say, that the current cake decorating binge I have been on since March all started because a friend “liked” you on Facebook. I have seen your cakes for a while and then the heart cake came along. The red heart inside the cake was a memory frozen in my brain. And then came the Hydrangea Cake. Signed, sealed, delivered I enrolled in a Wilton class. Six months later I have more cake pans, cake tools, and a dedicated iPad app for Cake recipes than I would have imagined possible. (And I’ve gained 7 lbs.) Just last week I saw a cute cookie decorated by My Sweet Things which prompted me to round up my cookie cutters. I rarely use them, but found it convenient to use a large heart for a one year old birthday cake (with your beautiful rosettes on the sides of the cake), and then I “had” to purchase dinosaur cookie cutters to help me with my 8 year old granddaughter’s birthday cake. I was stunned how many cookie cutters and it took 2 big craft boxes to put them in. Now, I don’t even want to tell you how many cake plates/stands I have. Not as many as you…but a bunch! And I can’t say I’m a blogger like you to justify their existence. Oh, and I have two Keurigs…one regular one and a new Rivo for lattes! All this to say, you’re not alone. Oh my goodness, this is the stuff dreams are made of! I always wanted this octopus cake stand from BHLDN, but it seems to be sold out or discontinued. 🙁

Wow! What an awesome husband to do that for you. I am in awe of your supplies. I’ve only been baking/decorating cakes for a couple of months. Like someone else mentioned, I took a class this summer because I was inspired by you. I only own one cake stand and it is seeing a lot of use this past month. I so badly want more….but until then, I will just stare at the picture of your closet and dream. Thanks for sharing.
