This Slow Cooker Apple Crisp is tender Granny Smith apples generously coated in a sweet, cinnamon-spiced mixture, topped with a crunchy oat topping. The slow cooker does all of the work for an irresistible dessert perfect for any occasion! While your oven cooks the main dish, pull out your crockpot to handle the easy-to-follow and easy-to-make after-dinner treat! (I even enjoy some for breakfast with a dollop of yogurt or splash of milk!) Ingredients & Substitutions
- Apples: I like Granny Smith apples for their tartness. Season the apples with brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Other apples like Braeburn, Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Pink Lady apples would be delicious, too. Or, sometimes I like to mix and match different kinds of apples for the apple crisp.
- Oats: Old-fashioned oats, also called rolled oats are perfect for recipes like apple crisp because they provide a hearty texture and hold their shape during cooking. Blend the oats with all-purpose flour, light brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. In a pinch, you could use instant oats (but I do not recommend those). They will cook faster and will have a softer texture.
- Butter: Melted unsalted butter brings the oat mixture together. It also helps make the topping nice and crispy! Salted butter can also be used.
What To Serve With Apple Crisp For The Perfect Dessert
Slow Cooker Apple Crisp is delicious on its own, but sometimes I want a little more to elevate the experience! Hey, why not? Here are some great options to consider:
- No-churn vanilla ice cream or salted caramel ice cream (my favorite)
- Whipped Cream
- Plain Greek Yogurt (great for a breakfast treat!)
- Caramel Sauce
- Toasted pecans or walnuts
- Ready for the last idea??? Cheddar Cheese! Yep, add a slice of cheddar cheese to your pile of apple crisp! It does work! In fact, I also have apple cheddar sliders that blend sweet apples with cheddar cheese.
Creative Ways To Present Slow Cooker Apple Crisp
If you don’t want people simply scooping the apple crisp out of your slow cooker or crockpot, here are some creative ways you can serve it:
- Serve the crockpot apple crisp in small, individual ramekins for an elegant and personalized touch.
- Present the apple crisp in a small cast iron skillet for a rustic, homey look that holds heat well and adds visual charm.
- Layer the apple crisp in mason jars, adding whipped cream or ice cream between the layers.
- If youโre presenting the apple crisp at a fall gathering, place mini pumpkins, pinecones, or autumn leaves around the serving area to add a festive, seasonal feel.
- Create a Toppings Bar! Set out small bowls with various toppings like chopped pecans, crushed graham crackers, caramel sauce, cinnamon sugar, and others I have mentioned. Guests can mix and match to create their perfect topping combinations.
- For a classic and elegant finish, dust each serving lightly with confectioners’ sugar (powdered sugar) just before serving.
How To Store Slow Cooker Apple Crisp
To store the leftovers of crock pot apple crisp, first, let it cool to room temperature. Next, transfer it to an airtight container to store in the refrigerator. It will last up to 3-4 days. Reheat it in the microwave or the oven until heated through.
Can I Freeze Apple Crisp?
Yes, you can freeze the cooked apple crisp. To freeze, first, let the apple crisp cool completely. Next, keep it in a freezer-safe container, leaving a little room for expansion. The apple crisp will last up to 2-3 months in the freezer. When ready to enjoy, let the apple crisp thaw in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.
