Thank you for making my recipe! You took pictures, right? Well go ahead and post them on Instagram! Be sure to mention me @iambaker and use the hashtag #YouAreBaker.
Usually when I see a stand that I adore I try to imagine a cake that would compliment it. ย And usually I want the cake to be the focal point… not the stand.
Not this cake. ย How could I possible compete with that majestic stand?
So I piped out flowers in the richest chocolate buttercream I could fathom (posting a recipe soon!) and hoped they would hold a candle up to the intricate and flawlessly designed flowers on the cake stand.
The dark chocolate flowers are attempting to mimicย the white orchid design on the cake platter- which is a signature collection of Michael Aram.
Well.
I cannot hold a candle to the stand, and thats ok! ย I dont mind taking a back seat to something so truly pretty.
The beauty of bring a cake baker is that I get to eat the evidence. ย The cake is a rich black velvet cake to contrast the bright white vanilla buttercream frosting. ย I loved the flavor as much as the bold design choice!
This black velvet cake is a simple adaptation of Martha Stewartsย Red Velvet Cake. Soooooooo good!
Just look at those matching side plates! ย Its a food photographers dream.

I followed Michael Aram on Pinterest. Glad that I did.
I am absolutely in love with his Christmas ornaments. I am always looking for unique and interesting “heirloom” decorations to put on my tree . His ornaments are so rustic and traditional and I can see myself passing them down to my children. I am thrilled to have stumbled across your post today or I might not have ever found these little treasures on my own. Thank you!!
If I win I would buy the complete set of Black Orchid dinnerware. It’s mesmerizing. Glad to have found Michael Aram’s store. Whatay collection!
I would definitely buy a bunch of cake stands! I only have one which is made out of glass. The ones on that site just spark my imagination!
I have to admit, the cakestands are gorgeous! I would probably get at least a couple of those, and I adore the cast iron dinnerware! I adore cakestands, so I would probably spend most of the money on that, but the cast iron dinnerware would have to come home too :).
Have I mentioned how much I want THIS cake stand?
Beautiful stuff! I love the silverware. I don’t know which pattern. Ack! I want it all.

I would buy a bunch of beautiful things I don’t need, like cake stands and serving trays.
