I have a confession. I have never liked Brownie Frosting. Until now! Pair it with the Best Brownie Recipe and you will be in heaven!
Secret Ingredient Frosting
I made some From-Scratch Brownie Mix this week.ย I just decided that my brownies deserved a little decadence. I opted to add honey to a basic chocolate frosting recipe and loved the results!
Why Is This Frosting Specifically for Brownies?
Let me tell you why this is the perfect frosting specifically for brownies.
- It’s soft, but ‘crusts’ ever so slightly after sitting out. The texture and consistency are natural and pure.
- It is complementary. It adds to the overall flavor combination, not making one or the other the star of the show.
- It is made to be applied to warm brownies, meaning that it locks in the moisture of the brownie itself and creates this seamless transition of velvety smoothness to a chewy gooey brownie.
Why is it “Brownie” Frosting?
By far my favorite way to enjoy this frosting is on brownies. When you have an ooey gooey brownie with a sweet chocolate frosting melting into every nook and cranny, it’s just magic. Be sure to add it to my Double Fudge Brownies, too!
Minute Frosting
Not only is the brownie frosting perfectly delicious, but it is also fast and easy. Take about a minute to come together and spreads easily over cooled brownies. I have added it to brownies right out of the oven before, and while that tastes AMAZING, it doesn’t look as pretty. If you want to tackle that delicious option, double the recipe and use half immediately then the other half after the brownies are cool.
I think it’s safe to say that I am officially converted into a fan of frosting on brownies! Hope you are too. ๐

Did you make this recipe?
Thank you for making my recipe! You took pictures, right? Well go ahead and post them on Instagram! Be sure to mention me @iambaker and use the hashtag #YouAreBaker.
This frosting looks really, really good. I would say frosting. Extra chocolate is always welcome!
Good point!
All you’ve done is add one tablespoon of honey to an old, well established and loved chocolate frosting recipe. I wouldn’t take too much credit and applause for such a deed. I’m 61 and have been doing this for years!!! With and without the honey!!! This is no biggie. Just good.
Sorry to have offended you so greatly Sharon! However, I didn’t take credit (nor any applause that I am aware of) for the recipe at all. I said once in the beginning of the post that I found the recipe online, then immediately following the recipe I provide a link to the source of the recipe.
One thing we do seem to agree on is that it’s good. ๐ Hope your day is blessed!
Excellent retort Amanda. I wish people would read a little “harder” before making inaccurate statements. BTW..I adore brownies, and chocolate frosting. I also adore ganache which I have put on brownies as well. I would be willing to give this a try! ๐
I agree with Paula, way to rise above and respond in kindness. ๐ Thanks for the recipe!
It looks really yummy! I prefer without the frosting too but tempted to try this. Is the taste of honey noticeable much? I don’t really like the taste of honey so a bit hesitant.
I am totally with you… as in not a huge fan of the flavor of honey. But no, you cannot taste it at all. It just gives that glorious shine! ๐
Shine, you say? That opens a whole ‘nother door. Substitute a spoon of honey for milk in buttercream?
Hi! In allergic to honey but im droolibg over this. Can i leave out the honey?
This frosting looks decadent and sooo delicious, perfect for Brownies. Gracias Amanda!
Thank you Bruni!
I donโt think Iโve ever had a brownie thatโs had frosting on, so Iโm right there with you, Amanda. However, saying that, this frosting look way too good to pass up. So rich and decadent.
So glad to know I am not alone… but I do hope you try this sometime! Really yummy. ๐
I used to work at hummingbird bakery and that’s when I first encountered frosted brownie. I love it in small doses as sometimes it can be too sweet.
I think you are right… it could get to be too sweet. ๐
Do you have any receipes for decorators frosting like they make in the stores for their cakes? I have tried but something is missing
I am not sure what you mean by “decorators frosting”. Like what bakeries use? Most bakery recipes are full of preservatives and artificial flavor and it is hard to replicate at home.
Oh man, this has me questioning everything I’ve ever known! I’ve never been a fan of frosting on brownies either, but this is really intriguing. I may have to go against my strongly held beliefs about the perfect brownie and give this a whirl!
In the great Frosting vs. No Frosting debate. I say: Viva la frosting!!!! Lol!!! also I must say I am intrigued by Gloria’s idea of adding honey into buttercream if it adds that pretty shine to it…
Girrrrrrrrl! Holy cow.
Yum!
I don’t know if I have ever had a brownie with frosting before, but you are certainly making me want to try! That frosting looks divine!
