Just over a year ago I wrote this post on wanting to give back.

I put the idea out there thinking that not many people would read it much less participate.  But was I wrong.

I simply asked people if they knew anyone who could use a little bit of joy.  I asked,

Do you know someone who is dealing with health issues?  Who lost a loved one?  Who has been out of work?  Who is raising their kids on their own?  Who has had the flu for two weeks?  Whose child has a birthday coming up?  Who always brings your garbage up for you on garbage day?  Who brings so much joy and happiness to others that you want them to experience a little of their own?”

I then asked people to nominate someone.  Anyone.  Yourself.

    And they did.

Within a very short amount of time I had over a hundred nominees.  I had to close the comments at 165, I just didn’t know how I could say no to that many people and had no idea how I was going to make 165 dozen cookies!

But then I started reading and my heart was overwhelmed for these folks.  SO many needs!

At that moment I realize that this had grown bigger than me, and I knew I could not do it alone.  So I enlisted your help.  I asked bakers if they would be willing to step up and make a crafty gift or baked good and ship it to a stranger.

I asked for you to design it, create it, and pay for it all on your own.

I was certain that people would laugh me off the internet and that no one would have the time nor the inclination to help.

Again, you proved me wrong in a big way.

After my initial plea, it was mere hours before every single nominee was accounted for.

I cried so many tears that day, in gratitude and hope for the changes you would be making in people’s lives!

The next week of my life was spent trying to organize things… to get the deserving nominee’s in touch with the awesome volunteers.  I must have sent out 1,000 emails that week!  Organization is not my strong suit and I lost sleep over trying to figure out how I was going to make sure that everyone got paired up and that every need was met.

And while the effort was more than worth it, I just didn’t think I could do it again.

    But you did.

Since that blog post in March of last year, I have never stopped receiving volunteers.  People email and say, “I know it’s over, but I would love to help in some way.”

Your selflessness and desire to be a force of good is amazing to me.

    So here we go again.

At 7:00am CST on Thursday morning I am going to put up a post asking for nominees.

The criteria are mostly the same! If you know someone who could use a special treat or gift, for any reason, nominate them.

    It can be anyone.

For any reason. (just read here to see the amazing nominee’s from last year)

This is going to be on a first come first serve basis, and we will be keeping the post open up to 250 comments.

Then next week  I will be putting up a post asking for volunteers.  Again, I will be asking for you to volunteer to make or craft something special… personalized sugar cookies, store bought cookies wrapped in a pretty ribbon, cupcakes in a jar, anything that would bring joy to an unsuspecting person!

You can do both.  You can do one.  You can simply pray or wish us well in this momentousness endeavor!

A couple things to keep in mind when nominating:

Do you have a physical mailing address for your nominee?

Do they have any food allergies or specific eating requirements?  If so, this may not be the best forum for them, as we cannot guarantee they will receive the appropriate foods.

A couple things to keep in mind when volunteering:

Can you fulfill the need in the next six weeks?

Are you ok with having to design, package, and ship the item yourself?

Do you want to do something that is going to change someone’s life and bring them joy?

I know you generous folks do not need any added incentive, but I do have some pretty awesome surprises in store for people who participate.  You might even be getting cookies from some very famous blogging folks!! (more on that to come…)

    Just to clarify:

Do NOT comment on this post about who you want to nominate.

That will go live on Thursday, June 7th and it is on a first come first serve basis.  But do be thinking about who could benefit from a random act of kindness.  If you are interested in baking or crafting for a nominee just hold tight!  That post will go live next week.  I will be posting updates and answering questions on Facebook as well, so be sure to check there.

If you were a part of things last year, I do so hope you will be again!  It was an amazing group of generous folks and I would love to again be able to express my gratitude and give you a shout out!

Also, the amazing Rebecca and Shanna are on board this time… helping to make sure everything is organized and efficient.  They are going to be working overtime ensure this is as seem less and successful as possible!

Let me know if you have any questions!

You don’t have to be a professional baker to volunteer do you?

      No you don’t.

I did it last year and loved it. So I’m in again. This is so great!

flat out amazing. I will be looking out for the volunteer post. I can’t WAIT to help out and possibly share a smile with someone who might need it. this is bigger than me and I love it!

Thank-you so much for doing this again. How do you find the time? Didn’t you just have a new baby? And, aren’t you in the midst of moving? You are one amazing woman, Amanda!
