So this is less of a recipe and more of a, “Hey, didn’t I see that on the box at some point?”

I am fairly certain that everyone in the good ole USA has seen this before.  If you haven’t then email cause we need to be friends.  I rarely meet people as behind the times as me.

Could. Not. Be. Simpler. (Want more amazing appetizers? I’ve got you covered!)

Snacks

I am sure you could add 101 different things to this, and by all means, please share so that I can break out of the mold a bit OK? My family will thank you. But every afternoon when the kids get home from school I am struggling to come up with easy snacks that everyone likes, that they can make themselves, and that isn’t loaded with sugar. This one fits the bill!

Sprinkle with season salt.

Eat.

Gotta tell ya.  Even though this is the easiest and cheapest snack ever, we love it.  We can polish off two sleeves of crackers and a container on cottage cheese in one sitting. Not to mention the Lawry’s… did you see the size of that container???

Variations for Snacks

You can add jam, jelly, fresh fruit (we love pears), prunes, almost anything to this simple snack. Some folks use Mrs. Dash to cut down on salt, some use low fat cottage cheese, some get the low-sodium crackers and create an almost salt-free snack! I can say with full confidence that whatever combination you choose, you will be delighted with this easy treat.

  1. I am glad some other commenters have shared they too have never heard of this…b/c I thought I was the only one! 🙂
Sounds yummy though…thanks for sharing with those of us that are behind the times.
Oh and my Lawry’s is even bigger…not that I am bragging of course b/c what does that say about MY family?! 🙂
    Have a wonderful weekend!!

  2. So simple but it sounds so yummy! I have often wanted to sub cottage cheese for sour cream in ranch dip. My daughter loves dip, but that would make it a little healthier.

  3. My husband always eats cottage cheese with crackers and it had never occurred to me before. We always ate ours with fruit growing up.

  4. We very rarely eat crackers, but I”ve never heard of this…and by reading your comments you are not that behind on the times :o)

  5. Another cracker/cottage cheese combo that is VERY yummy is putting the cottage cheese on Triscuits. I like to top that combo with half of a cherry tomato, while my boyfriend eats the Triscuits and cottage cheese with Crystal hot sauce on top. I’ve never heard of putting it on Ritz but that will definitely be tried next!

  6. Nope, never heard of it. I like cottage cheese mixed with salsa, and I think a cracker would go great with it. Or a tortilla chip. 🙂 This sounds simply yummy though!

  7. hi Amanda, that looks YUMMY! But…try the Watkins season salt instead (my website: http://www.keepagreenhome.com) — less sodium, more taste, and no MSG! You won’t be sorry…. it took me three years before trying Watkins because I liked Lawry’s so much…I still have a HUGE Sam’s club size Lawry’s in the cupboard two years later because I just can’t bring myself to use it any more….
Hope you’re feeling better!!! And bring the kiddos up to Park Rapids tomorrow or next Saturday for one of our pumpkin parties 🙂

  8. You’re not the only one. I’ve never heard of it before. Not a fan of cottage cheese. I may try it with cream cheese. I know, it’s more fattening. But a girl’s gotta live a little.

  9. I’ll have to try these, I LOVE cottage cheese. I’m the only one in my house that even likes it so I’m the lucky one that gets to eat it right out the tub because it’s all mine! I love Ritz and Lawry’s too but never thought of trying them all at once. I guess we’ll be great friends since I’m behind the times, too. =D

  10. Oh YUM! I’m definitely trying that the next time I have cottage cheese AND that comment about cottage cheese and salsa, I don’t even know why that sounds good…but it does LOL
