Surf and Turf Butter Board is an elaborate and delicious edible display of four kinds of seasoned, softened butter with seafood, meat, and more options for dipping. It is definitely one of the hottest food trends right now! And, with Challenge® butter on board (get it?!?), I have created the ultimate butter board.
What is a Butter Board?
Just like charcuterie boards show off meats, cheeses, fruits, and nuts, butter boards are all about the butter! Different kinds of butter and flavored butter spreads are softened and served on a wooden cutting board. Although they are all the rage right now, they were first introduced by chef Joshua Mcfadden back in 2017. In my recipe, I will provide you with a variety of buttery spread recipes as well as plenty of dipping choices.
Ingredients: It’s All About the Butter
Since this is a butter board, the star ingredient is, you guessed it, BUTTER! So, I have to go with the best quality butter out there–Challenge Butter. Challenge® Butter is made the old-fashioned way, churned fresh daily from the freshest milk and cream from happy cows at family-owned dairies since 1911.
Challenge butter also has a super delicious Garlic Parmesan & Herb Snack Spread that is perfect for butter boards. Simply melt (or soften) and dip away, taking your steak, shrimp, and vegetables to the next, more flavorful level!
How to Present a Butter Board
Yes, you could spread all of the different kinds of flavored butter directly onto a wooden board, but I wanted a neater, more sanitary way to serve the butter board. So, I simply presented all of the butter in separate bowls. In this case, the butter is also easy to store if not eaten.
In addition to serving the spreads in bowls, provide plenty of knives for spreading. After all, we don’t want any double dipping! And, timing is important here. Start with the foods that will take the longest so everything is hot and fresh when ready to serve.
What to Serve in a Surf and Turf Butter Board
Butter boards are pretty cool because they are so easy to make your own. Of course, with this being a surf and turf butter board, I had to include some seafood and meat. So, I included air fryer shrimp, steak bites, and chicken bites as a start. But, I didn’t stop there! Here are some more options you can serve with the butter spreads:
Again, there are so many options when it comes to adding to your butter board. I hope this gives you a good place to start! And, I just added cowboy butter to my list of recipes, which would be another flavorful option to the board.
Can I Make the Seasoned Butter Ahead of Time?
Sure! You can definitely get a head start on the different kinds of butter. Store the prepared butter spreads in the refrigerator for up to five days. However, be sure to allow the spreads to sit out at room temperature for at least three hours before serving.
