Yellow Cake (Also Called Butter Cake)

There are two reasons that I finally ended up in this yellow cake recipe:

  • It’s a one-bowl recipe.
  • It uses whole eggs, not 8 egg yolks.

Oh, and one more… it’s the BEST! Tastes amazing.

(If you want this recipe written out to try my Birthday Cake recipe, it is the same delicious yellow cake only written to be made immediately.)

Homemade Cake Mix

The recipe is written to be stored. You prepare the dry ingredients, label them, and store them in your pantry. When you are ready to bake the yellow cake, you remove it from your pantry and add the wet ingredients.

It is a great option if you have a few extra minutes the week before a birthday or special occasion! Not only can making your own cake mixes save you time, but they taste amazing and are real, natural ingredients!

How to Gift Yellow Cake Mix

If you want to give this as a gift simply print out the ‘wet’ ingredients and the directions and attach them to the jar.  Be sure to add some instructions, though.  Something like, “After the cake is cooled call me and I will be right over.” ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Traditionally white cake uses only egg whites and yellow cakes use the whole egg or only egg yolks. (and sometimes more butter and oil)

  1. What a great idea! I love the idea of keeping this on hand to use when time is short. And I love the idea of giving this as a gift. Pinning now to make soon. And with 10 inches of snow headed this way, cake may be just what the doctor ordered! ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy Friday!!!!

    1. Yikes!! 10 inches of snow is no fun. (As I look at the 2feet in front of me!) Thanks and be blessed!

  2. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this on Pinterest this morning. Yellow cake with chocolate frosting is my son-in-laws’ favorite cake and his birthday is Monday. I thank you for this recipe.

  3. I just LOVE yellow cake with chocolate frosting!! I have been trying to find a good yellow cake for ages! I am totally going to give this a try! And the best part is that it uses WHOLE eggs! I am making it this weekend for when my girlfriends come over! Thanks so much!

  4. Yum! Is it 1/2 cup of butter or 1 cup? I always question myself when recipes call for “one stick” of butter. :/

  5. I love that it uses whole eggs too. This is such a great recipe Amanda! I can’t wait to try it (and, when people ask “what are the measurements for this recipe if I don’t want to use a cake mix” I can point them to you!)
