Ingredients & Substitutions

Strawberries: I prefer using fresh strawberries, diced, in the simple syrup. But, to make this recipe even easier, use frozen strawberries!

Water: In general, itโ€™s a 1:1 ratio of water and sugar in simple syrup recipes. If you add more sugar than water, the syrup will be sweeter. And, on the other hand, for a little less sweetness, use more water than sugar.

Sugar: Granulated sugar, which you probably have on hand, is used when making simple syrup.

How To Use Strawberry Simple Syrup

There are a variety of ways to use strawberry simple syrup. Here are a few of my favorite (most delicious) ways:

  • Cocktails and Mocktails: Add a burst of strawberry flavor to your cocktails and mocktails. Use it in drinks like strawberry margaritas, mojitos, daiquiris, or lemonade (State Fair Strawberry Lemonade, anyone?). It’s a great idea to have some on hand for all the summer drinks you will be sipping…
  • Water & Tea: Add a splash of strawberry simple syrup to plain water, sparkling water, or a glass of iced tea for a refreshing flavored beverage.
  • Desserts: Drizzle over cakes, cupcakes, or cheesecakes.
  • Ice Cream: Create a strawberry sundae with a bowl of ice cream topped with fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and strawberry syrup.
  • Pancakes & Waffles
  • Salad Dressings
  • Fruit Salad

How To Store Strawberry Simple Syrup

Once the syrup has been made, let it cool completely before storing it. When ready, store it in a clean sealed container or bottle in the refrigerator. I like a bottle that can be poured easily and tightly closed. It will last up to 2-3 weeks.

Strawberry Simple Syrup is a homemade sweetener made with just three ingredients, sugar, water, and fresh strawberries. It can add a sweet and fruity flavor to a variety of recipes from beverages to desserts to salads.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces (1 ยพ cups) whole strawberries, washed, hulled, diced
  • 1 cup (250 g) water
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar

Instructions

  • To a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, add the diced strawberries, water, and granulated sugar.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for about 20 minutes. Avoid crushing the strawberries as it can make the syrup appear cloudy.
  • While simmering, occasionally skim off any foam that may form on the surface. This will help ensure a clearer syrup.
  • After 20 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  • Set a fine mesh strainer over an airtight container or jar. Pour the strawberry mixture through the strainer, allowing the liquid to separate from the solids. Discard the strawberries.
  • Let the strained syrup cool to room temperature.
  • Once cooled, cover the container with a lid and refrigerate the strawberry syrup until it becomes cold and fully chilled. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 weeks.

    1. That’s what I am wondering. I’m guessing you would process it just like you would strawberry jam. Did you try it? How did it turn out?
