Triple Chocolate Devils Food Cookies
With just five simple ingredients, you can get these cookies made and enjoyed! And, don’t give up on the cookies just because they are made with a box mix. I proudly share with you a far-from-scratch recipe that I have come to love. It’s over the top and rich and easy and wonderful. There is an obscene amount of white chocolate chips and that is just the way I like it. (You can certainly decrease the amount you use to accommodate your tastes.)
Triple Chocolate Devils Food Cookies Ingredients
Again, these cookies are only five simple ingredients!
Cake Mix: Go out and buy a box of Devil Food Cake Mix for this recipe and don’t apologize for using a box mix!
Wet Ingredients: Either vegetable or canola oil will work in this recipe. And, make sure you are using room-temperature eggs.
Chocolate Chips: I chose to add more white chocolate chips than milk chocolate, but you can definitely do the opposite. Or, just use all of one kind of flavored chip.
How to Make Triple Chocolate Devils Food Cookies
It’s so easy to make these cookies, there really is no excuse not to make them. To make the cookies, first, pour the dry cake mix into a bowl. Next, add the oil and eggs, mixing until well combined. Finally, fold in the chocolate chips.
Once the cookie dough is ready, use a small ice cream scoop or tablespoon to scoop out small balls. Place about eight on each cookie sheet. I made 24 cookies from this recipe. There is no need to roll the dough between your hands unless you prefer a smoother-looking cookie. They will taste delicious no matter what!

the whole point to this post is stupid. people have very good reasons why they prefer what they prefer and you are making a total mockery of what they prefer. what about people who have allergies. what about that i like chocolate best and my moms chocolate cake is best. just cause you are lazy doesn’t mean you get to pretend box is best.
No, you missed the point. The point is – if you PREFER from scratch, then fine. But don’t hate on others and call them lazy because they don’t bake from scratch, or if it’s what THEY prefer.
I normally don’t reply to other’s posts, but jeez Noell, you need to mind your attitude. The whole point of this post is not stupid. Gratitude for homebaked goods, whether concocted totally by hand, or started with a foundation and completed by hand, is very personal. While nobody would argue that people have the right to prefer what they prefer, you simply cannot label someone “lazy” because they baked from a mix. The smiles, heartfelt gratitude, and thankfulness for the THOUGHT are just some of the reasons why I love to bake and give it away. Don’t even try to label me “lazy” because my strawberry cake starts with a box mix. And I say, in my case, “starts with” because I add other things to inhance it. Take a second and read my post to Amanda’s original post. Box or not, I appreciate the THOUGHT behind baking.
AND…just another thought. With all of my baking, no one has ever said “Did you make that”, or “is that from scratch”???? They are too caught up in being thankful for the thought and eagerness to devour. The end result is: it came from me. Enough said.
What an amazing post Amanda! I agree 100% with everything you said! Your cookies look amazing and I am positive they taste amazing too <3 Love me some devil's food!
I agree with others that boxed cakes can taste great but my concern is not about taste. It’s the preservatives that exist in a boxed convenience dessert. So that is why I opt to bake from scratch and know that what I’m giving my family is not full of chemicals and preservatives.
Also, I would like to add that it’s a shame that there are people who call themselves bakers but use a boxed cakes mix. And anyone paying them money do so is getting duped. As a former owner of a boutique bakery, I can attest to the fact that it’s challenging to create everything from scratch but it’s worth it. Especially if you are paying a premium for a bakery cake. As the consumer, you should want to know that the reason your paying that price is because your cake was made with premium ingredients. Otherwise you could just head down to your local grocery store and pick up a cake for a fraction of the cost of what a bakery is charging you for a boxed cake and frosting.
But what if my customers know (and they do!) and don’t care? I don’t hide the fact that I use a boxed mix (I tell my customers, recipes posted on my blog, etc.) and I am not exaggerating to say I turn down 5+ orders a week because I simply can’t keep up with the demand. It’s not like I’m advertising custom-from-scratch recipes… and lying. My customers know… they’re happy, I’m happy, so why does it matter to anybody else?
Loooved this post. Carol’s gesture was soooo sweet! I mostly bake from scratch– but it’s because I CAN and a box mix involves a trip to the grocery store. But that’s just my personal situation. I have several recipes on my site calling for kinda dressed up cake mixes — those are the recipes I find MOST people are actually comfortable with– but I always get rude comments. Haters Gonna Hate. For years my family had box cake mix cakes at our family birthday parties and we would always pat the baker on the back telling them how awesome their confections were. Because it is TOTALLY the thought that counts. And cake is meant to be shared. And box cakes are still doggone delicious!
P.S. Your cookies look amazing and I might just drive to the store for a box of cake mix.
While I prefer to bake from scratch when possible, I am certainly not above using a box! It’s what I grew up on too. Loved the story behind this recipe, Amanda!
Thanks beautiful! How are those five awesome kids of yours???
I love your blog. I too agree with you about scratch vs box mixes. I do both. I once spent so much time and money (melting chocolate bars etc) making a cake from scratch only to have it turn out dry and awful, before having company that evening. I thankfully had a box mix in the cupboard which I begrudgingly pulled out to make, to save dessert. My husband said, what’s the big deal, Betty Crocker doesn’t spend millions of dollars to have cake that turns out bad. It made me feel better about using that mix.
I have made your recipe for cookies, in fact, it’s one recipe for cookies my grown daughters ask for every Christmas holiday. The only difference is I use peanut butter chips and chocolate chips, and save about 1/4-1/2 cup of the peanut butter chips to melt with a tiny amount of I think milk, which after the cookies are cooled, you drizzle over the tops. It’s like a Reeses peanut butter cup in a cookie!
I’m a total advocate for from-scratch baking, but this blogger has never turned down a box mix, either! My most requested cupcake is actually a doctored-up cake mix!
I think as long as we eat real, whole, natural foods MOST of the time, an occasional convenience food is a-ok.
And “Crocker, please?” You’re awesome. ๐
I just shared a recipe on my blog that had cake mix AND Cool Whip – obviously, I’m the devil incarnate ๐
Sounds amazing to me! ๐
I am going to draw red horns on your avatar! ๐
“Never stare into a gift horse’s mouth”. Is a good saying to live by. I bake both. If I’m feeling adventurous then I bake from scratch, but ain’t nothing wrong with some Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines!
