This Apple Pie Bomb Wreath is thawed Rhodes rolls filled with apple pie filling, arranged in a wreath shape, topped with a cinnamon streusel, and baked to golden perfection. Then, the dessert is drizzled with a sweet glaze, ready to be shared! It is not only an impressive display (but WAY easier than it looks) of my apple pie bombs, but each ‘bomb’ is bursting (get it๐ ) with sweet apple flavor! Why not switch up your apple pie game with this fun and delicious dessert?
Ingredients & Substitutions
- Rhodes Rolls: There are a couple of options when it comes to thawing the rolls. I have included both countertop thawing instructions and an overnight refrigerator thaw. Either works fine for this recipe.
- Apple Pie Filling: For the most flavor (and the option to choose your favorite kind of apples), make homemade apple pie filling! My recipe happens to be the perfect amount for this recipe…hint, hint. Or, use a 21-ounce can of store-bought pie filling.
- Streusel Topping: The streusel topping is a sweet, buttery mix of flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon with a pinch of salt. It bakes up crispy and golden, adding a tasty crunch on top of the soft, apple-filled rolls. It is the same streusel topping I used on my Pumpkin Streusel Muffins, which are a must-make, especially in the Fall!
- Glaze: I love the easy, sweet glaze drizzled over the top of the apple pie bomb wreath, so don’t forget about that!
Can I Use Homemade Dough Instead Of Rhodes Rolls?
Sure! If you want to make the dough from scratch, use your favorite yeast dough recipe. My easy dinner roll dough would work, too!
Can I Use A Different Pie Filling?
Absolutely! I think cherry pie filling would be delicious (like I used in my cherry pie bombs). Raspberry, apricot, or blueberry pie filling (from my blueberry lemon cream pie) would also be SO good!
How To Store The Apple Pie Bomb Wreath
To store the apple pie bomb wreath, first, let it cool completely. Next, wrap the rolls in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Keep them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To restore its crispy texture, reheat it in the oven.
Can I Freeze An Apple Pie Bomb Wreath?
Yes, you can freeze the apple pie bomb wreath. But, I recommend freezing it without the glaze. (That is easy to make and add when serving.) To freeze, let the apple pie bomb wreath cool completely. Next, wrap it in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. (I broke the rolls into smaller sections.) Then, store it in a freezer-safe container. It can be frozen for up to 2 months. Let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight.

Glaze
- 1 cup (125 g) confectioners' sugar

- To thaw the rolls, you can either place them on the counter to thaw and rise or let them thaw in the refrigerator overnight.Countertop Thaw: Place the baking sheet in a warm location and allow them to thaw and rise in the pan. They should be doubled in size. From frozen, that will take between 3-5 hours.Overnight Thaw: Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator overnight. - Arrange the dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet in a circular pattern. Then, brush rolls with the beaten egg. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the melted butter to the flour mixture. Mix with a fork until the mixture is combined.
- Top the apple-filled rolls with the streusel topping. Bake until golden brown, about 30-34 minutes.
- Set the baked rolls aside to cool slightly.
- In a small bowl, whisk together confectioners’ sugar and milk.
- While the apple wreath is still slightly warm, evenly pour glaze on the top.
- Let the wreath cool slightly before serving.
