When you see this site.  Seriously… the amount of detail…

I saw this listed on Cop Mama's site (shes a Cop so shes knows her stuff)

You need to go to:

RIGHT NOW, enter your name and see if your personal info is listed.
If so, scroll down to the VERY bottom and click on "privacy" to request to remove it.

It is a clearinghouse of info and may include:
A MAP OF YOUR HOUSE
YOUR BIRTHDATE
YOUR CHILDREN'S NAMES
YOUR SPOUSE'S NAME

And other personal information you may not feel comfortable letting the whole world know about you!

Thank you Cop Mama for this info… I went and removed Chad's name. (I was not listed)  I just cant get over the amount of detail on there!  As a blogger…well it was just scary!

  1. woah – thanks for sharing! Shared with my friends and family. But not the people I don’t like. HAHA just kidding.

  2. Wow…sure wish I knew which $1+ million home we were suppose to be living in! That is creepy crazy! Thanks for the tip!

  3. I don’t know… I read a bit about spokeo and it’s just an aggregator – the website collects information that is already out there and then fills in the blanks. The few bits they had right on me you could get from googling my name and address and the rest was just plain wrong. Wrong # of kids, wrong age, wrong income, husband’s name wrong… But go on google maps and google your address – picture of your house, right? This is just a place where all THAT stuff is collected in one easy to access location.
I worry that by giving them my email/name/address for “privacy” that I’m just providing more CORRECT information for someone ELSE to add to their database. Like responding to spam email.
And then I read what snopes had to say – basically removing this source of info doesn’t remove the source of the original info, which is where spokeo got it from in the first place. You can read it here:
    http://www.snopes.com/computer/internet/spokeo.asp
I like their comparison to playing Whack a Mole.
I guess we all have different levels of comfort with this kind of stuff. I tend to be on the “meh, who cares” level.

  4. lol very interesting – you know I had to go look up other people as well – although I didn’t have much luck!!! lol
They had some info right but some was WAY off – for instance it said my husband was female and our house was valued at over $1 million!!!! yeah right!!!!
    Thanks for the update!!! 🙂

  5. Unfortunately, with the growth of technology we have lost our privacy and anonymity. There are tons of sites out there that list personal info. Luckily most of them you have to pay for..and not many people will go that far to find someone.
I do have to say that I got a laugh out of the site you listed on here…about 90% of the info was just wrong.
    Thanks for the info though!

  6. Oh, and like the other post said…you can type your address into Google earth and you can actually see your house, traffic flow, etc. And Zillow.com is a realtor type site…it will list the estimated value of your house, a description, etc., etc., and it has several pictures of houses. I have tried several different addresses I have lived at…and not all of them were on there. I think it has something to do with different realty companies. Or something. Just thought I would add this so you could see if your’s is on there.
