Salted Hot Fudge is a rich and smooth chocolate sauce made with sweetened condensed milk, semi-sweet chocolate, butter, vanilla, and a touch of salt. It is perfect for drizzling over ice cream, brownies, or any dessert of your choice! Since this is hot fudge, it is plenty thick. I also have chocolate syrup with a slightly thinner consistency you will want to check out, too!
Ingredients & Substitutions
Sweetened Condensed Milk: A can of sweetened condensed milk adds sweetness and creaminess to the fudge base. Look at the cans carefully so you do not grab evaporated milk, which you should not substitute in this recipe!
Chocolate Chips: You will need a cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Or, break up a bar of semi-sweet chocolate to use. You could also experiment with milk chocolate or dark chocolate.
Butter: Unsalted butter gives you control over the salt added to this salted hot fudge. If using salted butter, you may want to lessen the amount of salt used.
Vanilla: A little bit of vanilla extract adds a little depth to the hot fudge.
Salt: Although I added 1/4 teaspoon of kosher salt, that amount is easy to adjust to your taste. If you prefer, add more. Or, use a little less for just a hint of salt.
How To Use Salted Hot Fudge
Salted Hot Fudge can be used on so many treats (warm or cold) to enhance the flavors even more! Here are some of my favorite options for using salted hot fudge:
- Drizzle the fudge over a scoop or two of your favorite ice cream! Check out my vanilla no-churn ice cream, plus other flavors like cookie dough, mint chocolate chip, and chocolate ice cream, just to name a few!
- Pour salted hot fudge over freshly made waffles or pancakes. And then, don’t forget the whipped cream!
- Add some fudge to the tops of your brownies, cookies, or a slice of cheesecake.
- Incorporate it into milkshakes or use it as a topping for sundaes or a plate of banana split nachos.
- Stir the hot fudge into a cup of hot cocoa for an extra-rich sip.
- Warm up the hot fudge for dipping in fresh fruit. (Chocolate-covered strawberries, anyone?)
How To Store Salted Hot Fudge
To store hot fudge, first, let it cool completely. Then, store it in an airtight container or jar with a tight-fitting lid in the refrigerator. It will last up to 2 weeks. Gently reheat the fudge in a saucepan over low heat or in a microwave in short intervals, stirring occasionally.

I love it when I can make this kind of thing from home and avoid all of the extra "stuff" in the store-bought kind. This one tastes great, with just a hint of salt.

I love hot fudge, and when a little salt is added to it, it's so good! I would even add a bit more salt to this.

Thick and glossy. Chocolatey and rich. I love the hint of salt to balance out the sweetness!

This is such an interesting flavor, in a good way! I like the slightly salty flavor, and think it would complement ice cream very well!

There's a perfect amount of salt in this fudge! It certainly helps balance the rich, sweet chocolate.
